Pitch inspection taken place

I once went to a game at Oldham that was postponed due to fog. Minutes before the game was due to kick off. Everyone was in the ground. Between the decision being made and the announcement to the crowd the fog had begun to clear and within 10 minutes it had gone. But they didn't reverse the decision.

 

Remember it well!

 

Also, when they played the FA Cup replay 7 days later, it was the "infamous" Gunne Halle dive with no Barnsley player within 10 yards. Barnsley double shafted by the same ref

 

I remember that well, mainly because it was my turn to drive our little group. Worst fog I've driven in and I was genuinely frightened given visibility was so bad. Then got to the ground and it was clear. At least the journey home was easier but baffling that decision was made so close to kick off when you could see the length of the pitch!

The rearranged game didn't lift spirits either!

 

Scarborough was postponed last night due to combination of pitch being frozen and bad forecast, probably same logic at Halifax.

 

Remember that one well. Think it was the FA Cup game that we ended up losing after the ghost challenge on Gunnar Halle for Oldham’s penalty winner.

 

Was still sat in an Oldham pub when it was announced, came outside and it was as clear as a bell.....talk about confusion. Seem to recall another game with Oldham being called off at Oakwell either the season before or after....early spring day, lovely weather....game off an hour before kick off because the East stand side of the pitch was frozen from the previous nights frost and hadn't thawed due to the shadow cast by the stand.......sithi.

George Cain. Easily remembered as those two games influenced my Fantasy League team name of "George Cain isn't Able" for the following season.

The rate at which the fog cleared after the postponement was unreal. We were still in the car park and you could peak through a gap and see the length of the pitch clearly. However, that was still a more rational decision than giving a penalty for Halle falling over with no-one anywhere near him.

 

I remember at the time believing it was an obvious dive... Then the picture in the chronicle afterwards showed it to be one of the most ridiculous dives ever. Its hard to get across to anyone who didn't see it just how far away Halle was from (I think it was) Archdeacon?
