Agreed, get a cocktail and it's more than their hourly rate supped in no time. A price of a night out is ridiculous but you can't blame the pubs - it's tax, breweries etc etc.. l said to the missus the other week, a couple of generations down and pubs will be few and far between and something you only do on a Saturday.

Being someone only too happy to help out I will shortly be leaving to pop down to my local for a few afternoon beverages.
Admittedly I doubt there will be a problem getting a seat.

To be fair none of my locals are 6.50 - 7.00 a pint or I wouldn't be going. Pints as low as 3.30 but I imagine will be going up after April.

I regularly go to my local Wetherspoon. Its either that or sit looking at four walls.

Me and the good lady are in Fair Oak at the moment and a pint of Asahi and a large white wine in a pub at Bishops Waltham was £17.95. Then by contrast we have had a pint of Moretti and a large white wine in a Greene King pub in Eastleigh costs £10.09.

Just last night I heard that two pubs in Stanley Wakefield have closed… Thatched House and Wheatsheaf.. both were very busy in years gone by

Rather than up the price of a pint. Why don't they try being cheaper. When they are getting a keg for £150 / £1.80ish a pint . I'm sure they could try and put offers on and sell more cheaper pints than charging £6+

Ropergate in Pontefract is the new "place to be". You can keep your £4.85 for a pint. All these trendy bars taking over filled with people with more money than sense. Its got to the point where the traditional pubs don't get the custom even though they're cheaper. You hear, "not going in that dead hole" said a lot.

Those bars are surviving on weekend trade alone. They are dead or closed during the week. That show bar is apparently losing money every time it opens. Went up town last Friday. Was quite late on so went in some of the older ponte bars which were still packed. Ended up in biggies ahah which was *****

The cost of a pint is about right at. Between 5 & 7 quid. However the economic stagnation and wage stagnation under the Tories means that we are all earning 5-10k less than we should be. The impact on all recreational activities from that money that was diverted to the very rich is catastrophic.

It’s not just the drink though.

Pubs used to be social hubs - real places full of real people. Where you’d meet friends, catch up gossip and news, discuss stuff, argue, have a laugh. Sometimes there'd be some bother and someone would be thrown out.

No need for pubs in the age of social media - unreal places full of unknown people, Where you can catch up on news that’s fake, where if you discuss stuff or have a laugh some unknown person will start a bit of bother and everyone will pile in. No ale either. Still. That’s progress.

But I don't know many locals charging 6 quid plus unless it's peroni or similar. I don't think it's greedy landlords that are shutting pubs. I cam see alot more shutting in the next few years though. Maybe more help for the pubs and hospitality sector could have helped.

I can drink morretti for just over 4 quid in my local I imagine it will go up next year. Especially with wages gas leccy etc I remember after the smoking ban many pub shutting ending up hmos or carehomes etc I imagine more will be following. I do think it's a different generation thing also though with not as many young ones drinking as much.
