0.75 is a penalty. So the quality of chances we created equalled 4 and a half penalties. Mental Edit - this is why I'm reluctant to go in on Clarke yet. Last season we complained about performance when winning. Eventually playing crap football will catch up with you. But playing good football will also start paying divindends. The football has & is incrementally improving match by match and I think we'll click nicely. I like the look of Watters under Clarke and fingers crossed when he returns he can bag us some goals.
I agree we need Watters back. He has that bit of pace that others don't have up top. I think there has been a combo of poor finishing & at times just bad luck. If we weren't creating chances I'd be more worried. Is it largely disappointing? Yes it is. I was really surprised Cosgrove was again brought on. He should be no where near the first team. Jalo has potential. Cosgrove is frankly just inept. We have a pretty decent side, but are lacking a cutting edge & we don't have an ideal back 3 either, but we are stuck with what we have till January. I'm not sure where we'll end up this season, but I think the next two games will give me a strong indication. We tend to go better against decent sides, who open up against us. Reading is a prime example, who are a simimilar side to us, with a lot of youngsters. Either we make the playoffs, or we end up somewhere between 7th & mid table. Home form is so poor & has been for 2 seasons. If that continues, we'll be more like mid table this season. We have a lot of decent prospects at the club, all is not that bad, but we are a long way from looking like a team ready for the Championship. I'm not in favour of just booting out another manager, as we've had way too much turnover of managers recently. It's easy to pull the trigger, but harder to deal with the aftermath. Yes. it's not great at the moment, but we are not as bad as some posts suggest. I agree it's not great either.
Shows how poor our academy is. I wonder what the coaches are doing there because they dont produce first team regulars.
That is because premier League teams are allowed to hoover all of the potential talent knowing that they are allowed to loan over 20 of them out each season making it zero risk. That makes the pool of good young talent much smaller for lower league clubs. On top of that you have the issue that young players need time in the first team to adapt. With a goalkeeper we allow them that time, with defenders we are more than happy for them to balls up each week for a year or more (hi MDG, Earl, Kitching, Andersen etc), in the attacking positions we simy dont allow young players that time and if they dont score goals instantly we write them off as never going to be good enough and instead we play someone older who is scoring just as few goals but because he was signed from another club he must be worth a few year contract. We've done it for years and we aren't the only ones
