What was everyone’s thoughts on the matchday experience yesterday?

First visit for me last night. Ground 80 of 92, and I was underwhelmed. Booked parking online for £10 in the university which was at the side of the ground. Found very little at the ground. A couple of portaloos and an outdoor lager bar - it was so cold, drinking beer was last thing on our minds.

Had a walk up the side of our stand to see if we could find a burger van or something, but there was nothing, not even a smell to follow.

Stewards were very friendly, but it didn’t get any better in the ground. Tiny sloping concourse packed with people but no sign of any food.

All in all a decent view but poor facilities.

It felt like a night game at a poor League 1/2 ground. Which is what it was, and will be for the foreseeable unless they make considerable investment in improving facilities, no matter how much they buy their way up the divisions.

Edit: however, £4.50 for a Wrexham lager was surprisingly cheap for a football ground. £2 cheaper than Madri at Oakwell for a start

Maybe concentrating on getting the team sorted first.

Massively underwhelmed although the ground has improved a bit since I last went and stood on a crumbling open terrace back in about 1981! Facilities for away fans were pretty poor and turnstile entry not clear. We ended up in the lower tier and had to be transferred at the back of the stand to the upper a few minutes prior to kick off. The stewards said this is something that happens regularly. Access to and from the ground wasn't great either with long queues of traffic building even more than an hour before kick off.
There was food available in the lower tier btw, so probably lucky for us that we went in the wrong section to start with. They were running out of food though about 20 minutes before KO.
All in all, not the most pleasant away day but losing to an injury time goal didn't help I suppose......

Think they are looking at a new stadium depending on promotion etc

Funnily enough I'm on 79 of the current ones. Not all with Barnsley though. I was on 92 in 1994!

My mates same. He did the 92 years ago, but has had to redo them umpteen times. I think he’s almost there.

I’ve done all those watching the reds, apart from Salford. Current, old, gone = 122

Just counted current grounds and I'm on 64. Like you I've probably watched us at at least another dozen or so grounds where the clubs have either built new grounds or dropped out of the league.

Went there back in the 90's to watch Carlisle Wrexham with some mates who supported the teams. Pub next to ground was grim - wasn't finished - he'd pour a pint then knock a nail in! Ground only had three sides then as one side was derelict and boarded up! It's a ground I'd never want to visit again ... along with Port Vale!!

I’ve never been but I do remember that they used to stage international matches now and then so it must have been a decent ground then.

Away facilities were non league standard, so was the view we had at far end near their fans.

I did warn you all that it was a shithole for away fans. That upper tier is criminal tbh in terms of view of the pitch shouldn’t be allowed.

I think I was lulled into believing it would be better by the eticketing ;)

Our view was ok tbf, but we were nearer the front. I saw a vlog from the back and it was obstructed.

The uncovered end reminded me of a fair ground ride. Kept expecting it to go up and over

The only thing I like league one for is visiting the grounds. Our West Stand gets a lot of stick, but you don’t half see some sights on the road.

One of the worst grounds I've been to regards H&S. Getting to our seats was a mare. As was getting to the toilets at half time. On a par with Bell end rd.
Pub and fans very welcoming tbf beforehand.
Was that in the ground ? As far as I was aware none was available. I drank wrexham lager in the pub. Not the worst but not a patch on Madri tbh.

It was at half time in the ground, yes. It was an average lager that tasted no better or worse than Madri, but I'll always take local beers when they're available over mass produced and marketed ones.

Was surprised The Turf let away supporters in as well and at £4.60 for a Neck Oil, very reasonably priced. Can't knock the friendliness of the locals or beer prices tbf, just the ground was a kip.

Everything about it was shocking, the tiny approach roads, the tickets saying turnstiles 1-4 then being told in the queue upper tier in 3-4, everybody pushed in no control.
The snack window and concourse was tiny and the bogs also tiny were next to it so the queue blocked the entrance.
The seats wow numbers all over mix of colours and filthy as.
Had to walk along a full row to get to the one walkway/steps.
    Absolutely tinpot
Massive girders in the way should have been restricted view
