Second bottom at Christmas. We drew with Sheff Utd at Oakwell (scored by Hourihane) got promotion. We have had it worse.
We’ve had it far worse than that mate trust me. But the team you are on about turned into probably best side in league, this one ain’t going to do that without major surgery I am afraid
Might be worth scrolling back to see what we were saying about that group of players around the time of Altrincham away. I was certainly vociferous in my dislike of Johnson at the time.
Wasn’t it the case that Hecky had just taken over from Johnson, who actually didn’t get sacked despite a run of terrible results? Or have I made that up?
The get rid of Clarke after a poor run bandwagon is up and running again. Considering the number of coaches/ managers we have had in recent years it's time to change our club ethos rather than head coach. Every season we weaken the team by selling and then not replacing our better players, manage decline some call it, others call it no ambition to improve the club. A couple of wins in 10months at home tells you something about our team nowadays.
In fairness Johnson achieved an almost impossible feat in getting a team that should have walked that league into the bottom 3. Biggest fraud we have ever had managing the club.
That season we had a really good team but we kept making loads of individual mistakes. And Lee Johnson can be pretty damn clueless. Eventually it clicked, we stopped making mistakes and took the division by storm. Not sure we can match anything like that this season and we don’t have to given we aren’t struggling at the bottom. Would be nice to start being clinical in front of goal sometime soon though. Saturday would be a very good starting point.
Was at that game we were awful first half much better 2nd, if memory serves me right that result even though getting a point put us bottom for a short time
Absolutely correct mate.... he got Johnson out of the shyyte, sure it was Cryne that got Hammill to come back too
Yes, you're right. Patrick Cryne phoned Hammill, when he was without a club, and convinced him to return to Oakwell. Our recruitment and results improved a lot when Patrick started to play a bigger part in the running of the club. I know some people thought we sold John Stones too cheaply, though he ended up netting us about £10 million, but Patrick knew a good player when he saw one. He played a big part in the signing of Hourihane, Winnall and others, and even accompanied Lee Johnson all the way to Inverness to watch Marley Watkins, before we signed him.
Don’t think there’s one player from now who’d get into the 16-17 side, apart from Roberts who was already in it. No idea how we ended up bottom in December with that squad. Hammill was the catalyst to turn it around though. Oh for another Adam Hammill…..
From Rockbottom to Heckingbottom Pretty sure it was 15/16 season and I believe it was YT who coined that phrase
