Just read they have been trialling a new rule for time wasting in the PL2 & Malta leagues.
When the keeper has the ball the Ref counts to 3, raises his hand counts to 5 and then awards a corner kick.
It is felt by the powers that be it has been successful so far.

What’s everyone thoughts on bringing this in?
Apart from we could concede a lot of corners :).

It would be start if refs made keepers take a goal kick from the side the ball goes out at.

    1) Six seconds rule
    2) Take the goal kick from the side it went out.
    3) multi-ball rule. Scrap it, or play on. Regardless of whether it is a player or a fan who sneakily throws the dead ball back on.
    4) Rugby rules for injuries - play on around them.
    5) Find a cure for the variant of cramp that only affects players of winning teams from 80 minutes onwards.

I pay to watch football, not play-acting conmen acting under the instructions of cheats who need to find a better way to win.

While I applaud the intent, do we really want to listen to the pundits analyse the inevitable inconsistency when team A was actually allowed an extra 0.2s the week before? Or worse still, put such issues in the hands of VAR?

It will go exactly the same way as all the other trials/laws. It will be observed for 4-5 weeks and then forgot about. A bit like the only person allowed to approach the referee is the captain, that went out of the window after the last euros

For years I've said there should be an independent timekeeper who should stop play every time the ball goes dead, for throw ins, free kicks, penalties, goals, injuries, pitch invasions, thunderstorms, whatever. Let the players waste as much time as they like. Then play 35 minutes each way of actual playing time.

The referee would no longer be involved in timekeeping, but he could still caution players if he thought they were taking the mick. Won't happen, like.

Also keeper should be made to go off as per any other player if they need physio to come on its now just allowed it to become a tactical meeting break for a team that’s under the cosh or time wasting to break momentum.

Read the title of the thread and had a vision of the Old Bailey where the judge and barristers kept nipping out for a wee, or demanding a new gavel!:p

That used to be the rule but for some reason it got changed a few years back so they can take it from anywhere in the 6 yard box.
No idea why they changed it

They can only do that if they change the rules. Currently they’re allowed to take it anywhere in the 6 yarder

Agreed also they could carry on after 90 mins until the ball goes dead (except for free kicks and penalties) that would stop arguments like the one in the Newcastle Liverpool game where the ref blows in the middle of a promising attack

No chance of either happening though

Again it would need a law change as a game cannot be started or re-started if one side doesn’t have a keeper on the pitch

Its also unworkable - Big centre forward clatters into Keeper in a deliberate foul - Keeper has to go off giving the fouling site a massive advantage well worth a yellow card

Yeah, games would turn farcical, if the keeper had to go off.

They need to sort out wrestling in the penalty box first.

Totally agree. Yet another thing to be completely over-analyzed. Also open to abuse. No doubt some refs will count more slowly for some teams and quicker for others when the pressure's on.
