I'm guessing without looking here but definitely March I'm gonna say 1994 as Peter Reid had taken over that season they went on a good run but it ended that Friday night 2-0 to the reds, was in the top tier of the East stand and my mate grabbed the back of the chair in front felt like an earthquake sway.

 

Just after East Stand had opened I think? Big Mal scored at the old kop end with a wind assisted screamer. If the net hadn’t stopped it I’m convinced it would have landed in Monk Bretton.

I remember that goal but can't picture the first goal, think Sunderland failed to make the playoffs but went up the following season, we went into tarn after that game on the lash great atmosphere, Friday night games were quite novel back then.
