No complaints about our performance today. We played pretty well but I thought the lack of discipline was embarrassing. All three of Connell, Phillips & O’Keeffe were idiots for picking up yellow cards how they did. Why are they kicking through the back of opposing players who are facing their own goal with no threat to our goal? You take yellow cards when you have to. Not stupidly so that you can’t put a tackle in for the rest of the game. O’Keeffe could and probably should have been sent off for a second yellow for the shot on goal well after the ref had blown his whistle & everyone else had stopped. Why do something so stupid & take the risk? That could have been us down to 10 men inside 30 minutes. We’ve seen the massive clamp down on it. And then Cotter at the end. Why foul him & waste our last chance of an attack? The defenders facing the wrong way & is probably going to have to give us a throw in high up the pitch.
I personally thought Phillips first yellow card should have been a free kick to us. He was clearly dragged back, which caused him to overstretch for the ball.
I agree he was dragged back but that wasn’t given & he went through the back of him. It was still a stupid decision to go to ground & pick a yellow up
Not even first eleven material based on recent performances. Maybe a harsh judgement but something needs to change.
It’s not a lack of discipline tbh it’s a ref treating two teams differently how can he book Phillips for a late challenge then literally same scenario happens to one of our players in our pen box yet it’s just a foul and no booking.
I agree to a certain extent but if you’re already on a booking you don’t go lunging in from behind. Absolutely bonkers and it’s cost us today cos the game was over once he’d been sent off. I said after 20 minutes that we wouldn’t finish the game with 11 men.
Whilst I agree the ref was lenient with some of Birmingham’s fouls all three that I’ve mentioned were blatant fouls from behind & clear yellows.
Agree with you on the 2nd one. Weirdly I actually thought he had grown a pair and was going to send off Stansfield but just realised he didn’t book him for purposely throwing MDG into the advertising boards. Weirdly he couldn’t wait to book any of our players as demended by the Brum players. Hope Thomas Parsons never refs us ever again but I’m sure we will be afflicted with him again now doubt.
I'm not sure it's discipline, more experience. Just the wrong time of a game to be putting your hands on and letting them get a foul - Pines & Cotter both got done at wrong time last 5/10 mins.
I know we all think the ref was crap yesterday but we were lucky to only have one sent off. Connell could have gone for any number of things, O'Keeffe came very close and was it Cosgrove who got booked for putting hands on the referee? Could easily have seen red
So watch the first [emoji[emoji6]] seconds of this video and I still can’t believe that Stansfield didn’t get booked for deliberately pushing MDG into the advertising hoardings (also a timely reminder for BFC we need to get rid of them this close to the pitch before someone gets seriously hurt)
Whilst I agree it is a bit naughty as the arm comes out he’s got to try & stop the cross from coming in. I think the bigger issue is how close the advertising hoardings are to the pitch. They’re barely off the pitch before they hit them.
Yes he was and if your getting penalised and the opposition are getting away with at times worse ( plus your denied a clear penalty) and you see a team mate thrown over the hoardings with no action taken then you start to see red and frustration takes over and you retaliate. Fairness is at the heart of British society and we were treated to 98 minutes of one sided decision making by a ref who came with pre conceived ideas and allowed himself to be lead by the " bigger" team. we've sadly seen it many times at Oakwell. Brush is spot on Robbo for captain and yes Connell should be dropped for a while. Also if you kno the ref will give a foul against you just for wearing Red why do you put your hands on a player with his back to you !!!..We need to make a case to the EFL about one of these games and demand the referee is brought in and watch video of incidents like the Stansfield one and defend his actions. I seem to remember Duff was supposed to have approached the EFL about the gross unfairness of decision making against us....but I may have dreamt that bit ..
You stop a cross with your foot not by pushing someone it’s a blatant foul and he knows full well what he’s upto as he tries to make out it’s a shoulder barge to the ref but he was trying to hurt a opponent deliberately, but once again not given or appropriately punished yet overlooked yet booked us for fun.
It’s a foul, but if we had done it I’d have been buzzing our player has a bit of sh*thouse in him. I’d have done the same too (and do every time I play)those sort of things always happen, give someone a shoulder when running full pelt and you know you can knock them off balance. Admittedly, they do normally give them as fouls so the question is why not here? I think we all know that answer, referee was bent from the off.
Don’t get me wrong I agree it’s a clear foul but it’s a push. They happen constantly throughout the game. It just looks bad because we’ve got some advertising hoardings way too close to the pitch.
