Last thing we need. Clarke has his faults like any coach but he’s been hampered yet again by poor recruitment.

People keep blaming the recruitment, and that is one angle, but I think DC could make better use of what he has.
I presume Earl and Jalo were injured today, not dropped, but who knows.
What does Nwakali have to do to get a start?
Where has Yoganathan disappeared to?
When will he realize that Cosgrove adds nothing when he comes on?
When does he give Connell a rest from the game, or at least from set pieces, and try someone new?
When does he give Phillips a rest (apart from the next game) and try something new?
The settled side approach, with the same substitutions, at the same game time, is just not working.

 

I get that and agree, but conversely if he was making changes all the time and the results weren’t any better, he would get accused of chopping and changing and not allowing us to get any consistency.

I don’t agree with our system, or playing a back 5 (I don’t see how you could agree with playing it at this point after how many clean sheets we’ve kept) but ultimately, he gets let down time and time again by the players.

Decent record when you consider what he's got at his disposal. His best player didn't sign until 1st September and he was a stone overweight.

People are scoffing, but if we lose the next two then he won't make the new year, as the two games after that are Bolton and Peterborough away so we're not winning those.

 

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if their desire to reach the championship was to fulfil a higher sale price and just be gone.

If you think back to 2017, the club was valued at £10m. Since then we've been relegated to League 1, the full ground is now owned by the council, all the cash in hand had gone and then some and we're haemorrhaging additional cash to the tune of £5-8m a year which the owners are capitalising.

Its easily argued the club has less value than in 2017, yet it would be natural for the owners to want a figure of around £40m to cover what they've put in. That's definitely not happening in league 1.

Alternatively, they get fed up of having to subsidise a failing business and sell it for a very nominal fee and just walk away and cut their losses.

Football clubs are absolute money pits and nowadays attract the sort of people you'd really not rather have.

I don't see the current stakeholders leaving soon, but you never know, everything has a tipping point.

 

I think Darrell is getting par score performance from the squad at his disposal. It’s quite clearly weaker than last year, it lacks balance in a few areas. To be 8th at this stage and not in the promotion mix is what I expected.

Can’t say I’ve been watching a tactical genius or anything. But it’s a little more direct an approach than Collins’ football (which I prefer) and I do think he’s got less weapons than Neill had to choose from.

He’s also a likeable bloke. I’m happy he’s representing us.

A handful of performances have been really tough to watch. A few have been impressive. And, whilst it means nothing, because we aren’t winning them, we’ve matched up quite well with the sides going for promotion.

I haven’t checked as I’m lazy, but it feels like we’ve won, lost and drawn a similar amount of games.

Clarke should be nowhere near the top of any list that outlines issues, mistakes or poor performers at BFC.
