It wasn’t too bad today but you get nothing for being unlucky. Hard luck stories don’t get you points. In the cold light of day we are now barely averaging a point per home game. As that X thread shows, that’s worse than anything we’ve seen in recent times at this level. We were shocking at home under Collins - but were doing better than this. Playing ‘ok’ and being unlucky cannot and will not paper over the cracks of the results - which are worrying. If we get nothing at Exeter next week I’d expect Clarke to have some more time with his family this Christmas. I don’t solely blame him - in fact I don’t blame him in any kind of majority. Ultimately the manager takes the flak for results though.
Keith Hills managerial record 75 games 19 wins 15 draws 41 defeats found him an arrogant sod personally.
I dunno buddy. Personally, I’d be judging the coach on his coaching ability, tactics, style of play, results on the pitch. Since Lee Johnson became our first head coach, I haven’t judged any of them on recruitment.
You weren’t the only one, I’m sure. But that’s life isn’t it? If we all liked the same things and the same people it’d make for a strange world. Not that it isn’t already! I see the stats. I remember his tenure well. Particularly the period from August to January of that 2011-12 campaign where we were chasing the playoffs in the second tier before injuries and ridiculous transfer clauses f***** us in the anus. It was pretty w*** after that, granted. We’re in the league below now. We’d love to be smacking Birmingham 5-0 away these days.
Yeah I also thought he was an absolute pratt, who ran his mouth way too much. But it certainly was more interesting to listen to, compared to Simon Davey and Mark Robins for example.
Some really good points there Kfc, but I prefer MacDonald's to be honest lol. Yeah it was/is ridiculous how they handled the Collins situation. It would have been more understandable, if we were just above the relegation zone of course. And its the same thing now with Clarke, as we've just dropped down to 8th, shame on him ehh for taking us that low!. I'm not sure what my expectations were for this season when we hired him, maybe top ten and anything better is a bonus etc. But the ultimate problem still for me, is its not about whoever the Coach is, its always going to be about those who are running the club.
Sometimes in football you can have some bad luck. Last season we had a spell where we got results and the performances were awful, this season, particularly of late, the performances have been better but the results not so. In my opinion Clarke has a much poorer squad than last year. The fact that Watters absence is seen as a substantial negative sort of sums up our current striking options. I’m not sure Clarke is to blame for many of the club’s failings. Looking above him, recruitment seems to have been pretty poor in the areas that needed addressing. Hopefully Darrell can turn things round and this transfer window may see the squad strengthen in the areas needed. I very much doubt there are any new prospective owners looking to take on a third tier club running at a loss of £5m+ pa.
It could be worse…. Look across the border at Rotherham. I personally think we’ve found our level based upon recruitment policy. And new ownership is a pipe dream, just look what happened last time.
