Two people standing still, having a cuddle would probably not fall over.
Two footballers on the move - different story

I didn't say I didn't think it was a penalty, I said I don't think he needed to fall on the floor.

If the contact didn't force him to the floor, I'd rather he'd stayed on his feet and taken his chances of beating the keeper, than falling over to "make sure" the ref gave a penalty.

The defender is allowed to try and stop him though. The question for me is whether the defender has pulled Humphrey’s to bring him to the floor and that is an absolute no.

Two modern day footballers instructed to dive to try and gain any advantage they can… sadly yes.

He's not allowed to try and stop him using his hands and arms

that’s not the definition of a foul though is it ?
If he pulls him back, it’s a foul, end of story.

whether it would / should have had enough force to ground him is irrelevant …I think!

I’m not sure he’s stopping him though. I’m not sure Hunphreys is allowed to cheat either. Though it happens in every game multiple times.

There are far far worse challenges going on at every corner that go unpunished.

This is the problem though isn’t it… football has been sanitised so much that proper fouls for penalties rarely happen anymore, so we get penalties for hanging a leg, falling to the ground, backing in to then flop on the floor.

Football is supposed to be a contact sport. The contact made in my view isn’t sufficient for a penalty and Humphrey’s has dived to try and win it.

I’ve watched it 5 times now and my view has only gotten stronger.

Anyway, at the end of the day, we had enough chances not to concede 2 goals and enough chances to score more than 2 goals. A non penalty isn’t a big deal in the scheme of the game.

Seen the Sky replay and that was as clear a penalty as you'll ever see.

Thing is, only he knows if the contact ‘forced him to the floor’ I do know that sometimes when you’re moving it doesn’t take much to knock you off balance. In situations like that I would back my player, some (on here, at least) would sooner doubt him and that’s up to them.

Not so sure about that, major ‘incidents’ like this especially where the scoreline is a close one, can really make a difference.

I think the debate should be more about whether it's right that a defender should be allowed to have his arm around Humphrys' neck and pull him backwards. Whether or not he did it with enough force to make Humphrys fall over is irrelevant.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this.
It was fairly fundamental to the outcome of the game given the final score line and was a definite penalty.

    the referee was absolutely appalling

I’ll be honest and I was the same in the summer, I don’t particularly care if anyone leaves not desperate to keep any of em! There’s not one who’s performing consistently with the exception of Mael DG, lost patience with Philips, Connell not the same player, DKD has largely been a waste of time, Cosgrove is a total flop, Humphrey’s is a truer but is isolated on his own.
I can’t believe we are missing Watters but we are, don’t get me started on Jalo never seen anything to suggest he’ll do anything.

How can that not be a penalty when a Greed League defender can be sent off for a slight tug on an opponent's hair?

Happy to disagree, at the end of the day it's just peoples opinions on a folly that passes a bit of time in between the important things.

And there are far far more important things in life.

No penalty, Humphrys left the ball and induced the contact - he should have concentrated on getting his shot away but it seems to be the modern way to look for the Pen instead

If putting your arms on a player is considered a foul (I genuinely don't know if it is or not) then it's a nailed on penalty. It's as clear as it could possibly be.

If it requires a pull then I genuinely don't know as I can't tell if Humphrys is being pulled or if he deliberately falls into the defender to make it look like he's being pulled. I've seen them given and I've seen them waved away.

As for the question posed "Why would he go down if he wasn't pulled?" To win a penalty of course.

    I just can't tell.
