    • Exeter City Vs. Barnsley - Sat, Dec 14 2024, 15:00

Ahead of the Reds' clash with Exeter City, goalkeeper Ben Killip shared his thoughts on the team’s recent challenges, his role in the squad, and his outlook for the remainder of the season. Despite a frustrating run of results, the 29-year-old remains confident that the Reds are heading in the right direction.

    On Recent Results

Killip acknowledged the frustration in the camp but expressed optimism about the team’s trajectory:

“We haven’t really got what we deserved from a lot of the games. We’ve dominated in most of them without managing to pick up a win. That’s caused huge frustration, but there’s a strong belief within us that we’re doing the right things. The performances are good, and the results will come.”

Staying true to their approach remains key for the team, according to Killip:

“You just have to be careful not to go against what you’ve been doing. We’ve created chances, had shots, and been defensively solid. It’s just about sticking to the plan and believing we have enough to win games and push back into the playoff and automatic promotion spots.”
    Leadership and Experience

As one of the squad’s senior figures, Killip is determined to lead by example and maintain morale:

“Age-wise, we’re not the most experienced side, but a lot of us have played plenty of games. We’ve been through good and bad in football, and that’s prepared us to handle moments like this.”
    Patience Rewarded

Reflecting on his journey at Oakwell, Killip spoke about earning his current starting role:

“It’s been mixed—frustrating not to play more games—but I knew when I joined Barnsley that I’d have to be patient. Now, I’m playing week in, week out for a team pushing for promotion. That’s why I came here, and it’s made the wait worthwhile.”
    The Goalkeeper Union

Killip also highlighted the strong camaraderie within Barnsley’s goalkeeping group, praising the talent and work ethic of his colleagues Gabrielle Sladeen and Jackson Smith:

“Gaga [Slonina] and Jackson [Smith] both have huge potential. There’s a reason clubs like Chelsea and Wolves have invested in them. It’s great working alongside them.”
    Focus on Exeter

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Killip remained confident despite the team’s recent form:

“We take confidence into every game. The performances have been good, and we believe the results will turn. Exeter is a tough side, but we’ll go there looking to win and use that as a platform to build momentum.”

He also underlined the potential significance of a positive result at St James Park:

“A victory can be a turning point, just like when we won there last season and went on a good run. We’ll take it one game at a time and keep pushing.”
    The Journey South

On a lighter note, Killip shared his plans for the long trip to Exeter, revealing his love of a good box set:

“I’m a box set kind of guy. I’ll probably watch The Day of the Jackal or Land Man to pass the time.”

I wondered if that was part of the “known as” game - like he is called Gaga instead of his actual name. Sladeen could be another version of his name???

Or it could be yet another example of poor admin.

People do need to be able to read and write properly dont they? I'll do it for minimal wages if asked.

People asked for write-ups instead of having to watch the videos (which I prefer). Maybe it was auto-generated text.
