Who as we know, has been appointed chair of the US Government’s efficiency department, has today wisely announced that ‘Recycling is pointless’. This is the same Elon Musk, who under his SpaceX umbrella, has spent billions developing a reusable rocket…. What an absolute crank. Whatever next in America, appointing a vaccine denier as health secretary?
That’s not what he says. He states that you have to eliminate the waste at the start, rather than having to recycle it all. As recycling takes energy, money and creates CO2. We are in a culture of thinking recycling is correct - but if we cut back on certain packaging etc you don’t have to recycle it in the first place. Perfectly correct.
You only have to look at the production of EVs compared to the production of ICEs - EVs produce more emissions in the manufacturing process. The recycling of them is about 5% and any that are disposed of in landfill can ruin topsoil etc. I'm not saying they aren't better overall for the environment -but the reality is for alot of these rose coloured glasses theories are correct , but the infrastructure/technology isnt there to execute it correctly/efficiently. Arthur Scargill in the 80s mentioned alot of these things about renewable energies etc and he got laughed at.
Needs to have a word with his mate Bezos about the amount of packaging his staff use when sending out a light bulb
There needs to be an investigation into the whole recycling industry. Most people try to do their bit and sort their rubbish into separate piles; four in my case. I see in the UK that there can be exorbitant fines for putting the wrong thing in the wrong bin. However, once it leaves your hands it is not always processed / handled correctly.
I’m sure he qualifies his point in some other area. But his actual words were ‘Recycling is pointless’ - that’s it - which as a standalone comment is a bit foolish when he’s spending billions developing technology to enable it and eliminate waste.
It is exactly what he said https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1867520973966098523?s=46&t=1qJGJ2eFN6Ft-91yGo39qw
A real life Bond villain is Musk just wait while it's his turn to be president there's a reason why he's buddies with Trump hes the next Crank in line if Trump can't change the rules to run again in 4 years.
The recycling industry for spent batteries is very much in its infancy simply because there is no volume of spent batteries yet - they are all still in use. But ultimately, very little of an EV battery will be landfilled - it's simply too valuable to chuck away.
My comment was not aimed at whether or not he said it, it was to highlight the fact he is a tw@t, and I only use that word because I can’t get past the swearing filter. Plus I was aiming my comment at dub-tyke’s comment.
He can't be president. Not a natural born citizen, parents aren't American and unlike McCain wasnt born in US controlled land.
That’s a grabber-line. But It is if we still keep recycling the same thing. Stop the use of it in the first place. Like another poster says - Amazon are just as bad over packaging stuff. And that article seems to infer Greenpeace (I say infer, as not read it)…. This isn’t a discussion about the guy, just his point about recycling, which has some truth to it.
Bringing in over next few years where every business will also have to sort and recycle as well. Where I live we are covered by 2 councils, both make you recycle, one does the whole recycle thing the other sends everything to an incinerator.
I completely agree about packaging and recycling, there needs to be a nationwide standard for it, but each council/area do things differently and until there is a set standard and also less packaging, the UK are not fully adopting a proper recycling policy. Musk is still a tw@t though
So he's one of them there immigrant types Trump and his red neck army want to get rid of, good job he's a rich white immigrant so he can have a stay in the US pass.
I honestly don't know if this type of technique is working anymore mate. Record numbers of black and Latinos voting for Trump. I dont get it personally so perhaps I'm just biased against Trump but clearly I must be missing something...
