Sorry, just realised I was rude and didn’t respond to your question.

I did get sorted, thanks. Really appreciative of the opportunity I was offered and so far so good, working with great people for a good cause. But there was no dirty done by BFC. I simply didn’t want to work there any longer, so I left!

I’ll be watching the Reds in a few hours, it’s great to be a fan again.

I think the odd thing about the shooting was that the Health CEO had no security, given he had received many threats to his life in a country awash with guns .

I’ve lived here for over [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] years. I get a bit fed up of these cretinous posts about how thick Americans are. I’m sorry to say, but they’re no worse than Brits, Aussies, etc. People are people everywhere. Some good. Some bad. Some bright. Some dull.

 

I wish I could but burying your head in the sand doesn't help either. Sometimes I watch newsround, there's more positive news from around the world on there!

 

I read The Guardian (online for a donation of £5 a month). The paper is not owned by a billionaire but is held in trust and their journalists are free to report as they see fit. You can pay as much as you can afford or feel comfortable with including paying nothing (however, they will keep asking you to contribute). I find the editorial bias to be slightly left leaning but I tend not to read the opinion pieces. I also occasionally read the BBC news but find their bias to somewhat right leaning.

 

We should condemn all act of violence while remaining curious about the motives behind them. And “now is not the time” is never the right response because it’s right after things happen that it is exactly the time to discuss it.

 

I am imagining, but have no evidence to support this…. that it is some Americans supporting this murder and some other Americans voting for a cretin, although there may be some overlap.

I saw an interesting take on why young Americans are really not bothered by this gunning down of a top businessman, they are simply minutes to gun violence having grown up in schools where days each year are lost to safety training in case of an attack by a crazed gunman. They have armed security as standard in their schools and gun violence on tv every day.

 

I think some Americans want to be left-leaning but its so ingrained in their culture that socialists/social democrats are evil commies that they dont know how to express themselves, organise or influence the two-party monolith. There are a few voices but they get marginalised quite quickly. The murder of this CEO is, for me, part of the frustration of many in America that 'something in our society is wrong'. Murders are horrible of course but then they happen all the time. Netanyahu has murdered thousands and he doesn't get as much criticism.

 

I don’t think it’s burying my head in the sand. I just steer clear of things that I know are likely to affect my mindset.

And yes, I’m very aware that watching BFC can do the same! But we all have our vices.

 

I wasn't meaning you in particular, but I find I feel out of things if I ignore the news. No man's an island and all that.

 

I dunno man, I’ve lived here 6 and I think I might have to disagree with you there. There’s a huge swathe of bottom feeders here that seem exceptionally more stupid, and in addition to that have a rare mix of arrogance, religion and guns.
