Nowt wrong with sticking to your guns on your opinion. However, if at some point you change your mind and you think you got it wrong there's nowt wrong in saying so either. Tell us what you think in 4 months time and bump the thread.
To be fair, he was always going to be the 5th choice. Think he knew that. Still, he'd be on more money than he was here. Bizarre how football has changed mate.
Yeah exactly, but we don't though. And that's one of the difficult issues that he/Clarke has to try and deal with. And as for where we maybe should be, I do also think we're close to being genuine challengers. And remember, even if we scrape 6th, then we've got a really good chance.
its weird, I know if I was his age I'd want to be playing, money is all well and good but a career only lasts so long and once its gone, there's no going back
Was he really scoring in every other game though, from Feb 1st onwards ?. That's where I choose to have a go at Cole, and come up with the disliked 'downed tools' phrase. In the first half of the season though (till the end of the January window), his goals kept us going and kept our promotion hopes alive.
I just don't get the downed tools bit though. Makes no sense because he's either playing for promotion, to move to a bigger side or something like a sideways step to Wrexham but on more money. Why would he down tools? I think it was just lack of form
Hey I wish it was about a lack of form and confidence maybe Frog, which happens to every player of course. But I also think he did it in the Duff season as well, in Feb/Mar onwards, he just wasn't the same player, when we needed him the most in our promotion push.
Great finish though it was, it's the first time he's put his laces through the ball, in other games he's tended to try and sidefoot them....a bit Chris O'Grady ish
People keep saying this. As though they have it as gospel that Hourihane is refusing to play, that Clarke would pick him if he would - and that he’d improve us. I don’t think he was ever coming here to play much, I really don’t. In fact I think he was registered as a player for sentimentality and to shift a few hundred more season tickets. He hasn’t got the legs to do it anymore. He came here to coach. I remember him on the pitch early in the season and he absolutely stank the place out - he really did. The Conor Hourihane people remember is long gone sadly. How do we know Clarke didn’t have a word in his ear and suggest he didn’t do it anymore? I know he’s only 33 but he looked older than that in his movement. Nobody knows what he’s paid yet people moan he’s being paid to play and coach; nobody knows what was discussed in summer about his role yet people moan he isn’t playing enough. His coaching role got more prominent and he got a bigger role when Dean Whitehead left. He last played in August, Whitehead left in September. I think he’ll stay registered for emergencies but reckon to all intents and purposes he’s retired and a coach these days, and that a retirement announcement will come in summer.
And yet you will not answer the question of who it is you know that is eagerly waiting in the wings to tak us over. Come on, give us a name, just one?
Good post but there’s a lot of suppositions that we can get rid of at least 8 players to new homes which we won’t. Doing this and bringing 3 quality loans in would see us too 2 I believe. Unfortunately the good will built with the loan avenue has long gone.
