As somebody who should have enjoyed 80s music, in general, I didn't.
Controversial opinion, but we were the generation who were weaned on the 70s and longed for something like the 60s.
Instead, we got Human League, Japan, Owen Paul and a load of trumped up shi1te disguised as pop.

There was only one good song in the 80s, the rest was bilge.

    So there

Discovered this via Sturgill Simpson's version. It didn't bother the charts in the UK but was a one hit wonder in the US...

One of my all-time favourites. Oddly enough I was playing the album yesterday. It still sounds great even after so many years. I remember being slightly disappointed when I bought it because the vinyl album version of "Messages" was a different mix, without the intro and a bit less oomph. Thankfully the CD album has the single version as a bonus track.

Tubeway Army's "Replicas" is another good album from that era. This is another favourite of mine, this version taken from Gary Numan's Savage Live tour. The whole Brixton concert is available on YouTube and well worth a look....

I’ve seen Gary Numan play live a few times quite recently and although his old stuff is very good, his newer stuff is excellent. Much darker and heavier than his early stuff and definitely influenced by Nine Inch Nails (his favourite band). Intruder album is a very decent listen (imho).

Always loved Gary Numan. The darker and rock versions of Are Friends Electric are amazing. His new stuff is very good

My claim to fame is that I once went out with Phil Oakey's first wife Anthea....she was the best friend of my mate's girlfriend, after Oakey gave her the heave ho, they invited me along as a sort of blind date....however Anthea made it quite clear from the first conversation she thought I was a pleb of the lowest order.
I wasn't scarred by the experience.

I was more tempted to say...'I can see why Phil got rid'...but I'm too polite.
