Summing up starts today Post Office live: PO lawyers enforced 'corporate psychopathy with ingenuity, ruthlessness' https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/news/p...y-with-ingenuity-ruthlessness/5121834.article
Also Royal Mail being sold to a Czech billionaire. Only good thing is that the Government are retaining the "golden shares". Yet more of the country being sold off to foreign investors.
The government gave permission for royal mail been sold. They just put some agreements in that hq cannot be moved and tax arrangements can't be altered.

The government will retain a “golden share” in IDS, which means any changes to Royal Mail’s ownership, tax residency or headquarters will need its assent. The Royal Mail brand will also be protected for as long as EP owns the company.
https://www.parcelandpostaltechnolo...nt-agrees-sale-of-royal-mail-to-ep-group.html Reads like the goverment oversaw it all. If another goverment had been in charge of this happening the pitch forks would be out.
Post Office scandal? I'll give you Post Office scandal......£6 for a little box of Heroes, can get a tub for that in Tescos. Scandalous.
The government sold Royal Mail in 2012. It’s been a private company for quite some time, and the Czech billionaire has owned quite a number of shares for some time. The business is crying out for investment to catch up to competitors - let’s see if this makes that happen.
If you're on about the Horizon scandal....the Inquiry finishes this week and most of the big fish were questioned a few moths back so its been a bit quiet, but there have been a lot of revelations from less prominent people, often lawyers and advisors that seem small but add up in the bigger picture. The Police have said they are investigating around a hundred people from a criminal perspective, but the law moving slowly means we'll have to wait for the findings of the Inquiry to be published...and then whatever charges the Police decide to bring.
The Tories sold off the profitable parts of the Royal Mail years ago. Left Royal Mail with all the crap.
Ah so it's okay for one to do it but not the other? You could say they are all the same or very similar.
The rump of Royal Mail is unprofitable (apparently) so what would you propose that the government do, let it go to the wall? Personally I'd renationalise it rather than sell it.
If another goverment sold it to a foreign investor for nearly 5.5 billion many on here would be spitting feathers and it can't be so unprofitable and sell for so much. I don't know what I would do Royal mail make most money from parcel delivery now but there's always going to be letters posted. Renationalise could have been a option too late now though.
Like I said what would you do? Maybe we agree that renationalisation would have been the best option. I am not a Labour supporter and I don't simply accept anything they do, but there have to be viable options for Royal Mail and maybe the one they have taken is the right one in light of the previous history. Neither you nor I know enough about all this to condemn it out of hand. I still think it should be renationalised.
Not disagreeing but I doubt you or many would be so forgiving if another government in power oversaw it. Gives them 5.3 billion extra to spunk on whatever.
