Dunno. Western browsers tend to be set by default to UTF-8/ISO Latin for character encoding. My guess is the Tapatalk app has an encoding bug it hasn't fixed. Only thing I can think is you have some weird text encoding or font family on your browser.

I don't really want to carry this on as the only thing I really care about is that people are able to post without what they're writing turning to nonsense because of an app, and people are able to read the posts of others without it looking nonsense when it has been posted on an app. Simple answer to that for everyone concerned is to use a browser.

But I had a couple of beers last night and went off at a tangent and got a bit hyperbolic!

My opinion on the points you raised:
If the site doesn't look how you'd like it make use of the zoom control under settings > accessibility.

If you're worried about being tracked use incognito mode.

You're correct, Google collects far more data. They do so to sell you products. They're the biggest ad agency in the world. But you're not the commodity, you're the consumer.
They offer their products for free so they can sell advertising space so companies can try to sell you stuff. You're in control of whether you buy that stuff or not.

Most other companies aren't in that position. You become the commodity. Your data is gathered and traded and you have no control over that at all. That's usually to companies who want to sell you stuff just like Google. But instead of Web adverts that can be easily blocked by a decent add-on it's emails that clog your inbox and unsolicited phone calls. They're benign but it's a pain. And if you don't believe companies are selling your data when they claim they don't, why do so many companies who you have never had previous dealings with know your email address?

And that's before we talk about those who acquire your data who certainly aren't benign.

Do Google sell your data? Why would they? That's giving it to the competition. And they make plenty of money already thank you very much. But if you believe they do, use another browser which will render this site exactly as intended. Or use incognito mode or a vpn.

Again, sorry, didn't mean to get shouty.

You know how it is when you've had a beer or two.

Just want everyone to be able to post without all those silly numbers cropping up all over the place.

The bug happens when the post is made rather than when it’s viewed - so the browser used shouldn’t matter. It’s an old bug in the app that encodes numbers wrong and tries to save them as emoji

that’s why you won’t get the issue then it’s fixed in the paid for version the issue is unresolved in the bbs app available on the App Store.

I’ve deleted the app and just using the web browser version via the forum hence why you aren’t seeing all that from my posts anymore.
