He’s unlucky that his best position coincides with Connell’s. Good player, though I’d guess that he’s more likely to end up at Mansfield out of those three clubs.
He should have been given a go instead of Connell who let’s be honest been very average this season and last.
Shame about the timing because I think he's a good player and will have at least a very good championship career
He was given a go he played the first 12 games and didn’t really impress. While Connell hasn’t had his best season he offered more than Craig.
And is not our player. Why we should be developing another clubs asset at the expense of our own is beyond me. No need to hold him back either though so let him go and seek game time elsewhere
Why would we develop someone else's laiker though? Say what you want about Connell but he needs playing and he'll get better - which is what we should be doing.
That's one way of looking at the loan market. The other is that it gives us access to good players we'd otherwise never be able to obtain on a permanent basis. Utilised well, it can be a valuable tool. We'd have not made the play offs 2 seasons ago without the January arrival of Bobby Thomas or 4 years ago had we not signed Daryl Dike. Neither we realistically could afford to sign permanently. Of course, some loans just don't work out, though I think on paper, Craig looked a very astute signing in the summer.
Tells you something when clubs in an higher league want him when Clarke thinks others are more worthy.
He played a dozen games and looked ok but no better than our own players. He was given a go. He didnt particularly shine. Best all round for his loan to be cancelled and he goes elsewhere. He’s good for this level but we don’t need him, we need resource used elsewhere.
[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]"> The fact Sheff Utd are rumoured to be interested doesn’t mean Clarke is wrong not to start him, nor does it mean they see him as an automatic starter. The fact Mansfield also think they have a chance says a lot too. I think Matty Craig is a decent player and will get better but he’s not what we need at this moment in time.
Big difference to wanting him on loan and transfer though. I imagine United would be looking at the later. Though in the right set up I think he could definitely perform there. Not sure why you're having another dig at Clarke ? Some players just fit in with certain clubs. Hammill being the prime example
He's good player but Nwakali and Connell are both in front of him. The only downside to releasing him back is he'll strengthen a rival. But if will free up funds to get in someone else.
Questionable signing really, nothing to do with the lad himself, just trying to understand the process of why we brought him here when we have Connell, Phillips, Russell, Benson, trying to develop Yoganathan, Hourihane at the time saying he would play some games and then we brought in Kelechi Nwakali. Just a slot taken up in the squad when those resources could have been used more Wisley in other area's. Good luck to the lad
Our recent form in league 1 is patchy at best and he cannot even get on as a sub. Sheffield United want to spend cash to buy him and next season could be two leagues above us.
I think the assumption is Connell & Phillips would be box to box doing the lot & Craig would be the anchor. That didn't work & Connell has only really worked sitting deeper & doing more of the dirty stuff which has meant that Craig has missed out. It's fair enough.
If United sign him, the likelihood is they'll send him out on loan to get experience, like Spurs have done. Nobody in the Championship/Premier League is signing him with a view to him slotting straight into their side.
