True, and any decent manager would put the arm round wouldn't they? Having said that one has to make a decision for the long-term as to whether Killip is good enough or not. Even apart from Saturday (and I'm only speaking from watching on telly) I'm not convinced the lad is what we need. Opinions....
I agree on that one to be honest - but he's our current best option and I can't see that changing part way through the season.
Killip historically always has 1 or 2 shocker games per season. Other than that he’s been fairly reliable. Unless he’s injured, he keeps his spot for me. Otherwise, to be fair, you’d also have to bin off another 6/7 players from Saturday too - and we don’t have that squad depth!
Last season our number 1 was Roberts a loanee, this season slonina was loaned in with the intention of been 1st choice especially given how much chelsea paid for him. Smith was one for the future and killip was back up. Slonina cost us goals and points then killip showed at the weekend exactly why he should be back up.
My son is a goalkeeper and one of the mantras they are taught from an early age that after an error that “the next shot matters” in an aid to try and put a mistake behind them and perform again. Killip clearly shown on Sat that once he’s made an error that he’s unable to do that and fell apart totally and I fear that the pressure on the squad now will be too much for him to deal with and I think he could fall apart at Bolton as i think we will get turned over easily on Boxing Day unfortunately.
He's a out and out a no2 keeper that's what he was fetched in as. Fine to play the odd game but expect for him to play 30+ games is asking for trouble. I think the Solena injury is smoke and mirrors personally and the situation needs sorting ASAP in January.
To cheer him up, did you think of saying “at least it’s only your hooter packed, and not your bags”? Perhaps not - it probably would have only gone over his head.
Fair point, and I guess the best course of action can only be known in hindsight after the next few games. Big call for Clarke. As well as Killip's body language, I was extremely concerned by the reactions of his team mates to his mistakes. For the first few crosses he missed they gave him loads of verbals. After that, they just turned their back on him, and pretty much everyone ignored him at full time. Perhaps that says as much about them as him, but it laid bare the distinct impression that no one has much confidence in him.
I didn’t see the last match but have seen the highlights & he’s obviously had a stinker. Hopefully he’s got all his mistakes out of the way in one game & can rebound from it.
He's let in 20 goals in 14 games. He's only kept 3 clean sheets, with 1 in his last 8 games. We've only won 1 of his last 8 games. I don't think he's taken his chance between the sticks.
Deffo injured - I’ve seen his hand taped up in Town, and a mate who watches training said he was doing fitness and kicking work only. Agree though, probably will go back in Jan if he’s not going to play. Still a good keeper and only young. Needs time to develop more - and to be fair, L1 is a step up from what he’s been used to playing.
Good job it's not Pinderfields. My old man spent 15 hours in there on a chair in a corridor on Saturday. Chaos...
Fair enough injury seemed to come wt a very convenient time. When fit he's got to play or go back Killip no no1.
For ballance Killip 14 in 9 league games 3 clean sheets (Note 33%) 1.55 goals per game.. Slonina 18 in 12 league games 1 clean sheet. (8%) 1.5 per game Would you blame them alone or diabolical.defending in the main. I opt for the latter.
What on earth makes you think Smith is a better option. Genuine question. On the whole killip has performed admirably.
Well so far he seems to have injuries to his nose, groin and hand. Don't want to speculate what he's been up to to cause those, but they don't seem to make for a very merry Christmas.
And what about his confidence in the defence in front of him. Most of the team were a shambles. Pines and Nwakali the only 2 that played 90 min came out with any credit for me.
