It’s as if some folk never wanted to give Killip a chance. He has got back in side and up to last Saturday performed decently imo. Unfortunately he decides to have his bad game in the worst of windy conditions that I can ever remember us playing in, which didn’t do a goalie of his size any favours. Also and this isn’t an excuse but the Orient corners in first half were top class delivery and they made the most of the conditions by putting the ball in most dangerous area to pressurise our keeper. Yes he should have done better but it’s what it is and we move on. Drop him for next match and kill his confidence eh?.....not a good idea when really none of us know if Smith is any better of a goalie yet.

incorrect on Isted. We tried to low ball him money wise. We actually offered less than MK Dons did - then he met the Charlton manager while he was on holiday who thought he was signing for us and was amazed we had put in such a poor offer for him and that’s why he moved to Charlton.

You seem to think killip isn't so bad. For me goalkeeper would be number 1 priority in January send Slonina back aswell.

    Come on Redrum.
Yes we need a goalie. Smith has been Mentioned. But at the mo we have to chose the best option, And Cos I think he ((Killip) isn't so bad, and I stand by that. does not mean we shouldn't go for better. That applies to any department.

    Menai tyke .
As for Isted we were still talking to him and he had other offers as a free agent. I couldn't possibly say what he was offered elsewhere I'm not in the know as you seem to be. But it was stated or rumoured at the time. Duff leaving made his mind up. Duff joined Swansea and Isted signed the day after for Charlton. Coincidence or not. ?

Im sure YT will correct me if I’m wrong. But I understood that both Isted and Luke Thomas has agreed new contracts verbally. We’d made arrangements for photo shoots etc with them both. When Duff left their agents called and said they’d changed their mind due to not knowing who our next gaffer would be.

I think you are missing my point.
It doesn't alter the fact that even if we offered less, which doesnt surprise me in the least. (Free agents can call the tune) Duff leaving may have had an influence on his final decision. 1st choice and all that. Many players have turned down more lucrative offers for similar reasons.
Duff left on the 23rd june. Isted on the 24th. June.

Not giving an opinion on why whoever left as I know sod all but here's an interview I found with isted from 30th June 2023

“I was interested in signing for them because I had been there and I’d done well there,” said Isted.

“I was used to living up there, used to the club and used to the lads and the fans.

“A big part of it was the manager leaving. I got on really well with him and I’d worked well under him. So I would have been going to sign for a club that doesn’t have a manager and not knowing what was happening.

“I got a call from my agent on Wednesday (last week about Charlton’s interest), I was in Greece at the time with my girlfriend and I was flying back that night.

“I had a conversation with the gaffer and he sold the club to me. He said he is aiming for promotion. I can’t see why Charlton can’t push for that and gain it, when you look at the facilities and the training ground.”

That means the timeframe according to Isted himself is:
    • Isted was informed of interest from Charlton whilst on holiday on Wednesday 21 June
    • Duff officially left on Thursday 22 June
    • Isted signed for Charlton on Saturday 24 June

Not sure what that proves either way, in fact I haven't actually read the thread in detail to see who thinks what but it's isteds account anyway

I care more about Collins than I do Isted. Collins was our player while Isted was only here on loan. And Collins was a much, much better keeper. Hooky is going to try to argue otherwise, but Collins is currently in the team at Championship Coventry while Isted is on the bench at bottom of League 1 table Burton, which adequately illustrates the gulf in class between the two players.

Anyway, Duff alienated Collins which meant we lost him. Duff then buggered off which meant we lost Isted too and had no keeper. Duff is the primary reason we've been in such a mess with goalkeepers this last couple of years. There's responsibility to be taken by the recruitment team too, they should have sorted it out by now, but Duff is the reason it needed sorting out by causing the mess in the first place. He continued to select an on loan keeper, who, after a decent start to his time at Barnsley, had begun conceding a goal at his front post every week, ahead of our keeper who was much better and had done nothing wrong. 'Nothing wrong' massively undersells him, he'd been excellent for us, not only at keeping goal but setting up attacks, and with him in goal we might have sneaked in to the automatic promotion places. How do you not get promoted with a back 3 of Andersen, Kitching and Thomas? By continuing to select an inferior goalkeeper. Thanks Michael you utter twonk.

What you forget Jay lol. Is I preferred Walton and Roberts over Collins. All opinions mate. That avenue has been trodden times over.
We'll just have to disagree. No one died.
Using the loan/he's our player argument imo Is no reason to select the latter. On that reason alone. But Duff chose Isted. Who I thought was the better of the two. I can only assume Duff thought the same.
