If we appointed him, I'm not sure I'd ever go to Oakwell again...

I don't think Rooney will manage again - his last two appointments were disasters!

I’ll repeat what I said before - he’s taken on jobs that less brave people looking to start out would have taken.

I actually think he did a really decent job at Derby all things considered.

At Washington, it wasn’t the greatest but his replacement hasn’t exactly improved them. Rooney improved their record by 13 points from 2022 to 2023, and since he left, the new coach matched the record almost exactly, same win/draw/loss record only with a worse goal difference - but happened to finish a couple of places higher.

Birmingham was bizarre; he was in to a hiding to nothing as the fans never wanted him in the first place due to the ridiculous treatment of John Eustace. Their relegation can’t solely be blamed on his third of the season.

And as for Plymouth, no idea why he took the job. They have nothing in the squad whatsoever and I can’t see any other coach making them any better without several signings next month. Fair enough they’ve decided not to give Rooney the window; but I think it’s a little harsh. I know he hasn’t done ‘well’ - but has he underachieved really?

They did their best, putting him down for January.

Sounds like a job for Mr Warnock. Do we think he could keep them up ??

Could they go back for Steven Schumacher? He seemed to be a good fit there first time round.

Seems a bit OTT, the majority of coaches come and go in a flash so why not let a legend have a crack at it, I'm sure he's improved Plymouth's profile while he's been there and like others have said they'll probably get relegated with or without him.

Where were they when he took over and where were they when he left?

Not really, managers have a huge impact. Look at the difference between Villa giving a legend in Gerrard a job, then Emery after Gerrard got the sack. The difference was & is monumental

They were 6th with 18pts from 11 games when he took over. 2 wins and 4 draws later from 15 games he left them in 20th.
