Was that after the Pines mistake which led to their chance, and while it was still goal less. I had to fault him for the Bolton goal because it looked like weak keeping. But on the whole, I think Killip has been a good improvement on Slonina (who has left now anyway).
I genuinely think it wasn't as bad as most make out Baz. 1st, 3rd and 4th goals the defence played a more major role for me. The second flapped a little but the wind may not have helped. 1st no one on front or back post. The 3rd being the devil you do the devil you dont come out. 4th at full stretch to get a hand to it. Not his best game I admit but supposed great keepers can have a stinker. The saves he's made in the last 2 games and especially wrexham played a major part in us getting 6 points. What will be interesting mate is if we go for another goalie in the window. As No.1 or as I suspect No.2. He's certainly given himself every chance of claiming/keeping ( forgive the pun) the no.1 spot. I suppose its dependent on who's available. One thing I do know. Big bucks keepers don't always cut it. And Solina certainly didn't.
Re the 1st sentence yes. As for the Bolton goal mate whilst it appeared a weak hand. Imo It should never have needed be. The defence were a shambles in the lead up. Not one attempt at a tackle from one side of the pitch to the other. After we initially got a foot on the ball in the previous movement and gave it em straight back.
I understand why you think I’m harsh but I just don’t think he commands his area well enough. He’s done ok, don’t get me wrong, but I think we could do better and certainly would need to if we went up.
Well, if we were to go back up to the Championship. I dread to think of who we might need to replace, and with who, and how much it might cost etc!!. But that argument, is for another time lol.
Because it takes a whole team to defend. Our defenders have been excellent as of late, especially considering 2/3's of it has been injured. Pines wasn't fully fit AND McCarthy has barely played in 2 years. Brilliant considering the teams we've been facing.
Killip is ok for a back up but should be nowhere near first choice at a promotion chasing club if that’s what we are.
I'd agree with that. Possibly only Hignett to rival him in the 30 years I've been watching. And even then, Huddersfield in the League or Liverpool in the Cup, having been signed the day before?
Yes I get that but name me how many players in our current squad on one hand that would be good enough for the championship. I'm struggling to name more than 3
Yeah that's the point I was making as well Baz. Its worrying as to just how few Championship quality players we have right now, just in case we did manage to win promotion.
But how many do Wrexham have? Bolton? Wycombe? Stockport, Reading etc... id argue we have even more than all those. Only Birmingham and Huddersfield really who do have a good few, especially Birmingham. And its not like they blew us away mate. Realistically, if we had loads of players good enough for championship, then they'd be in championship, unless we pay them 25k a week like brummie
Thats probably true what your saying Frog. Im sure we all feel that we need to go back up again, and sooner rather than later. But I also hate the idea of us going up, and then being nowhere near good enough. And staying in the bottom three all season, and being relegated again before Easter!. And btw, I think we would have done that, had we won that day at Wembley with Duff. I can't stand what Birmingham are allowed to spend either, but at least they're doing it with the intention of trying to compete again, after going up.
Think we need to get out o this **** league first. Personaly my first choice signing in January wouldn't be a keeper it would be a solid centre half and a goal scorer
We dont need to waste more money on centre halves mate, we have 8 if we including James, Lopata and Shepherd
Do you honestly think out of the 8 centre half's we can compete. Just look how many clean sheets we have had. Solbairre type centre half at the back. Good no 9 which are hard to keep hold of . I think we would compete without a doubt.
Isnt Roberts supposed to be our Solbauer though? Tough, experienced, physical. I think a large part of it has been our weak home form, and hopefully that's changing. Hopefully fan toxicity is slowing down with improved performances (which besides small blips, has been steadily improving) and confidence coming back. Mael has been exceptional of late, Mccarthy doing well considering he's barely played for 2 years
Fair play ,maybe you have more confidence in our defence than me. That is how I see it , work out our average goals per game conceded . It's not a good look on reflection.
Tend to agree with a lot you are saying Baz, we haven’t suddenly got a good defence, been weak for 18 months. Roberts has improved it, but we are short unless both MDV and Earl are at the very top of their game. McCarthy and Pines still to prove a lot to me. It’s ok saying we have loads of centre halves, but our quality isn’t in abundance as much as it is in quantity. Let’s hope such as MDV keep up form of last few games eh.
