Gent struggled at Bolton, was getting dragged all over the place. Needs dipping in and out of the team.

We can't afford cover and two players in every position, we've enough that we can shoehorn in there and do a good job for the odd games. Let's see what other positions we bring in.

Let's hope we are not scatter gunning again

Hey btw, whether this signing works out or not.
I'm pleased to see some incoming transfer activity, this early in January. :)

Personally I'd have liked to have seen an actual left back rather than yet another wing back to add to our ever growing collection that makes us the least flexible team in England but I wish the lad luck.

My worry is that with every signing we are further going down the route of ensuring that we can only play one formation as we have done ever since Khaled said the board had changed our style.

And as per the video probably slightly more effective going forward on that side.

I'd agree with that, but we've nothing by way of cover/competition.

But on his left foot. Hammill was mainly right-footed, but was his greatest scoring threat when coming in from the left. If Neil is mainly left-footed, I can see why they would play him on the right, if he were playing as a striker, or number 8. Good finish. We will need him most at left wing back

Farrugia can literally play anywhere on the park.

Very obviously that gives us more versatility, not less.

He's a free left back from the league of ireland, he will have cost barely anything mate. We do need 2 in every position, and we currently do for the most part. More in other areas. Squad needs thinning out

I suppose the argument is that if we were to play a four, Josh Earl would play there and a wing back would become a winger, cos we haven’t got any of them either.

Adam Hammill was naturally left footed, but could use his right. As we have seen

There’s very little difference between a LB and a LWB these days.

You watch a decent team who plays 442 - you’ll see the LB bombing forward on the overlap all game. Top level example would be Ben White and Saka at Arsenal - both continually swapping places during the game.

There’s no place in the game anymore for someone who solely defends or attacks on the wing - they have to do both to a decent level to stand chance of progressing in the game.

Yes, 100% the best advice. This & Twitter. Poor lad will be destroyed before he's even kicked a ball for us, just like Killip.

    Welcome Neil!
Looking like a good "early doors" signing.
