Looking at freezing temperatures towards end of the week, could the game be in doubt ? Wouldn't think they've under soil heating.
Apparently,Under soil heating is no good for a ‘deep’ frost as the higher required temperature dries the roots out and kills the grass
I take any 5-day forecast with a pinch of salt. They struggle with anything beyond 24 hours and by their own admission find 5 day forecasts nearly impossible. Those forecasts exist mainly for clickbait and to make them appear clever.
Forecast 4° on Saturday, after 3 days of max 2°, min -4° overnight, tho obviously that could change either way. The ground is very exposed and they do call off easily.......wouldn't surprise me if it's off.
A lately the BBC have been as much as 10 hours out. Doesn't seem a lot but that snow we got on Saturday night into Sunday should have arrived much sooner.
Luckily it was wrong for Pontefract. Last thing my Dad said to me on Saturday morning was, "Keep an eye on weather". Naturally it being my number one fixation after horse racing and Barnsley F.C. I did. I presume he was about to finish with "because I'm not picking you up" .
Met office says -5C overnight Thursday (2C max daytime) and warming to 0C/5C by Saturday. I don't think -5C is bad enough to get too deep into the ground so good chance it will be played.
I don't know how easily Northampton call off games, but I'll personally be surprised if its on. Had two away games in recent years with similar forecasts - Oxford under Duff and Stevenage under Collins - where it had been below freezing most of the preceeding week but 4-5 degrees above on the day of the game - both called off with me and others en route. Never underestimate the tinpottedness of clubs down at this level. Edit: can't believe I forgot the Exeter game on a Tuesday night as well, didn't trek down for that one thank God...
Just hope they have the decency to postpone it early if there’s any doubt. Travelling fans don’t want a repeat of recent Exeter and Stevenage scenarios.
Now forecast to be -6 down there on Thursday night, rising to a subtropical 1 degree on Friday and back down to -3 on Saturday morning. There's not a prayer it's going to be on if that's accurate or nearly accurate. Ffs.
Yeah those BBC forecasts are useless. Says 20 degrees for Lanzorote today. I can confirm it is considerably hotter than that. ;-)
Depends how much Northampton want it to be on its not like this weather wasn’t predicted but it’s barely getting above freezing all week so i personally expect most Div 1and 2 games to be off.
With what must be an already substantial frost in the ground the daytime temperatures forecast for the next few days won`t compensate for minus temperatures they will continue to have for the rest of the week. Without undersoil heating I just can`t see a game there on Saturday.
