Hi Mate, I agree but if you scratch the surface you will find a couple of very good Micro breweries on Lanzarote. Nao is my favourite but not many pubs stock it as it is 6%. THere is also a couple of very good Belguim bars that stack a very wide variety of beers my favourite is Rosco's which has at least 8 draft beers on tap, currently brew dog, and Paulaner Weiss are my favourites. Sadly due to distance ales don't travel well to here my friend who owns 4 large tourist pubs tried shipping Sammy's but it just didn't make the journey.

Probably don't like the local food, many people go abroad to relax and get away from the rat race, peg themselves on a sunbed for a week or 2 then come home, some go and go out and visit the local area because they're not into sunbathing all day, that's fine as well, the wife's uncle when he goes away he looks into the history of the island/ country, visits churches and other beautiful buildings, never stops, that's fine as well, I don't find it bizzare I just know we are all different, I don't think the locals are becoming anti tourist because you don't like paella it's more to do with dicks in certain resorts, add into that, foreigners buying homes for rentals which makes owning a home for a local practically impossible, that's what I've read and also told by a local in Fuerteventura

I always think about when people post a photo of a common takeaway e.g. McDonalds and says ‘who goes on holiday to X and has a McDonalds?’ but it’s just one snapshot of time. The people in there might have spent 15 hours 6 days in a row exploring all the local culture and just fancied a Big Mac. My husband and I go to KFC once in every country we visit. We like to see how it varies and the different items that are only on offer in those specific countries. It’s one meal out of 21/42 but I’m sure there’s someone feeling self righteous and tutting us when we get it.

Think you’ve totally misread my post.
I was giving a reason why we would sometimes use an English/ Irish bar. Watching a match we are interested in is another reason.

Aside from that we definitely seek out local bars, and are more than happy with the local produce.
In fact, we try to find the places that are frequented by local people - because it’s a good indicator of a place being good.
As for culture - again, we tend to avoid the mainstream tourist traps and go and find things for ourselves. Quite happy to hop on a local bus and just walk back or cycle - just to see what we can find.

Agree, we spent 3k for a week in Fuerteventura in October, seeing someone having a maccy d's or seeing someone visiting a monastery as no bearing or relevance to our holiday, people graft and save all year for a week or 2 away, providing your being a decent human being then you have earned the right to enjoy your holiday anyway you wish,

Cycled from Puerto Del Carmen to (nearly) Costa Teguise today.
    Not recommended! Can’t walk!

Playa Honda looks lovely for local restaurants that are very popular.

The stretch between Arrecife and Costa Teguise is pretty grim.

If you go to Lanzarote and feeling brave, hire a car for a few days. You can visit the other resorts, but also the quieter end of the island with the Cactus garden, Jameos del Aqua, and the views from the North end of the island are stunning.

I’ve never gone that far but once rode a bike from Del Carmen to Arrecife & back past the airport & it’s the most enjoyable bike ride I’ve ever gone on. It certainly beats riding on the trans pennine trail.

We always go once on holiday to McD’s in the daytime. I never eat it in this country but it’s genuinely nice abroad. The menu’s far better & you can even have a pint.

Exactly this, we go to Greece regularly, we eat out most nights and love to try all the local dishes but I’ve known us have an English breakfast at least once while we’re there.
I remember we were in one bar and heard a guy asked if they had Guinness bloke at the side of him started having a (lighted hearted) go at him, telling him he should be drinking Mythos, Guineas guy said…you pay for it and I’ll drink Mythos…I’m paying for it, I’ll drink what I want. :)
