Day 5 complete. Genuinely nearly had a drink out of boredom today cos I’ve been snowed in, but had a couple of cups of Earl Grey instead. Wondering if I’ll be able to get to work in Bury tomorrow…
Do you find that 0.0% is given your brain that ‘alcohol’ feel or fix? Will you drink 0.0% all month or get to the king where you think ‘it’s going sod all this’ so I’ll have a pop? Not being nosey btw
I just fancied having a beer yesterday while watching the match and I was in Lidl and you got 6 x 200ml bottles for £4. I’ve never tried Leffe alcohol free before so I thought I’d give it a go. Thumbs up from me. I’ve been drinking pop most of the rest of the time.
Sundays are usually a trigger for me, get the dinner on and have the footy on, with a beer or glass of wine on hand. Had nowt yesterday but could have murdered a nice glass of Black Stump. Oh well, day 5.
Genuinely, for those a week or whatever into it, it’s a piece of p*** once you’re through a couple of weeks. After a month I didn’t ever even think of beer. Couple of months on and it’s only when it’s mentioned by others, or you see stuff on TV or online that it enters your mind. Most of the health benefits kick in after a month, and even more so as time goes on. Have I once or twice thought “could enjoy a beer right now” - of course. But it’s never just a beer. Life is miles better teetotal. Wish I’d known that for the last 30 years.
So - a week in - can anyone say they actually feel any better for it? I feel exactly the same, only difference is I'm having less fun. Right load of old ******.
I do actually feel a bit better, although I am tired all the time at the moment. Think it’s because my body now craves proper sleep. I’ve got some Staropramen 0.0s tonight to watch the Arsenal vs Newcastle match with. They’re not as good as the Leffe. I’ve also lost 5lbs.
Did 4 months in the summer, 6 months all told last year and doing dry Jan, health benefits pffft more energy, sleeping better losing weight ???? Absolutely bunkem I gained weight cos I was eating chocolate felt no difference apart from being as miserable as sin ! Once did sober October said never again worst month of my life unfortunately I will probably have to stop altogether. Next Cardiology appointment I’m sure will confirm it.
I was going to do dry January but decided I needed something to really test my will power so I’ve decided not to touch another drop until Scott posts something positive about Barnsley.
Don't think I posted yesterday, but I am still on track. My tea consumption has gone through the roof though. Tried the Brewdog Hazy AF the other night. Quite enjoyed it. Can tell I'm resetting my habits though, because I only drank two cans of it, even though I had four in the fridge.
Blimey Paul, I had no idea you'd been struggling so badly with your health. Hopefully this year will bring better things. On the upside of things, one of our neighbours who we know quite well had been struggling with a hereditary degenerative kidney condition for many years. She had a transplant about 3 years ago and it's been absolutely transformational. Modern medicine really is incredible.
With the alcohol free options these days I'm finding it fairly easy. Over the past few years I've been experimenting in the alcohol free dept, wine and spirits are ***** but l love Guinness and the Brewdog options. I've got four Leffes for tonight. In two minds whether to quit altogether, l've gone spells recently of not drinking for a month or so or just quitting the beer and sticking to wine. Beers like my kryptonite
Get the Brewdog non alcoholic 8 pack, you can try all the different ones then - there wasn't one l didn't enjoy. I think I'm through about 90% of the non-alcoholic stuff in my quest to find the best. Hopefully more come on tap in the bars, Guinness is only currently on the Devonshire in London.
I no longer drink alcohol and having tried many, there are only 2 alc free I will drink. Guinness zero which is my No 1 and Erdinger which is a alc free wheat beer. I like a drink to keep a good head and most non alc seem to be missing that.
