So basically he has 2 1/2yrs left on his contract so the balls in our court much like the Kitching situation. Goal scorers are worth more than defenders so we have our bench mark Kitching money + 1m I would guess. The talk to Phillips would go like keep doing what your doing until rhe summer and you will get a better move than them two.
It's quite simple they'll make an offer of £500,000 to £1Million the board will say no the player and his agent will kick off and once again we'll be left with an undisclosed fee payable in small amounts and a sell on which we'll never collect on. Just when Phillips and DKD seem to be building an understanding and we appear to be turning a corner the rug once again will be pulled out from under us. We should tell judasbottom at Preston to **** off and the taffs to join him.
He won't be sold this window. One thing we actually are good at as a club, is holding on to our best players in January. It seems to be every January that those 2 clubs get linked with our best players, and it's what, 6 years since we last sold a first team regular in January? The summer is a different prospect, but for now, I can't see anyone other than fringe players leaving this window.
Calm darn it’s only a rumour, I was once linked to playing with Barnsley boys under 11’s according to mi Mam lol.....I never got further than Sunday league division 6 lol
I hope, and think, that you're right. We've got too many disillusioned fans already for the board to be unwise enough to sell a key player at a time when we have just hauled ourselves back into the promotion race.
Huddersfield just paid £3million for an unproven striker on the back of a decent spell at Lincoln, & barely any game time at his parent club this season. Phillips has been consistent in this league for 3 seasons now, plus he’s got a couple of years left on his contract, so yes the minimum should be £5million.
Craig Hignett was the best player I have seen in a Barnsley shirt and yes, I did see Glavin play. Goals, assists, all around play. If you comparing the outputs of both players (also considering Hignett played for us on the verge of getting back into the Premier League) then I think you’re mad as a box of frogs.
I heard Blackburn and Preston were interested in him last 2 summers gone and nothing has come of it. Every player has there price I doubt Preston could afford him or Swansea. The club just need to hold out for a big fee because his goal and assist ratio is ridiculous and he's got 2 and half year left. Don't sell for peanuts like already said 5 million.
If we were Peterborough for example, and they were having arguably their best player bought off them with what could be 2.5 years left on his contract, they'd be asking 6+ million for him easy. Why don't we? Because we're used to having our pants pulled down time and time again. We don't need to sell, he's arguably our best player in terms of contributions, why on earth would we even enter into discussions sub 5 million. Sub 5 and we can't replace like for like or slightly worse but younger and we're back to square one again, been there done that and got several T-shirts. No more. We're not the easy touch we used to be, and you have to congratulate the current iteration of the Board for that. Also the fans, some folk are stuck in the past and it's one of the reasons we won't progress as a Club. People suggesting 1.5 million or 2 million are just being so pessimistic it's almost laughable. Go and buy Sheehan from Bolton and see what's required to do that. Phillips is just as influential to a side as that guy is, why should we have to take the crumbs from the table all the time? No. More.
Yea so vice versa we would get 5 years on never never to buy a replacement on that basis, my point is that if we got 2 million we wouldn’t be spending owt like 2 million on a replacement
Really, I know transfers are paid in partial lump sums and instalments, but for you to know for how long a period for a player we haven’t sold is quite impressive
You are right mate, but some on here think that this rumour automatically means that Phillips is now history and will be gone, let’s wait until there’s bit more facts to this story eh.
You've just answered your own question, if we tell Preston to **** off then as you say the player and agent suddenly become unsettled. That's the modern day footballer there's very little options then for us, keep an unhappy player? Or sell? Have to give credit to the board, we got good money for Mads and Kitching I can't think of any others we've sold cheap under this current board tbh
