Bet Nidgel Benn doesn't think like that when his opponent, forgot his name ended up with brain damage.
That's always a potential issue though, they know this going in. It's a title fight, it deserved longer, even if it was just another 20 seconds. Countless times (in my opinion more in MMA/UFC) fighters look beat and then come back into it, whether it's a 'lucky' punch or incredible stamina. There's an element of danger in the sport, their jobs, but as I say, they're aware of it. Just like race car drivers, skydiving instructors, orca trainers. Jobs what aren't needed, or necessary, but still people do them.
He hadn’t gone Helen. His eyes were fixed on Callum, his legs and feet were steady, he was throwing back. It was a very, very premature stoppage. I doubt it changed the result - but he deserved to be given a chance. Had that been a champion who’d been rocked but recovered, there’d be uproar at such a stoppage.
Dad's from Huddersfield, l think. They now live around the corner from me, Callum now lives in Harrogate.
After the knock down. Only a couple landed, he wasn't in any trouble at the time of the stoppage. He was just about to throw back himself.
I'm no expert on boxing but it's subjective but did the best man win absolutely. What that family have been through is tragic and if he did cop a bit of luck long may it continue. He represents our town with great pride let's hope he goes onto bigger and better things.
Get where you are coming from Baz. And totally agree. The opponent wasn't going anywhere but defeat. And another punch could have had a devastating effect. Not worth it for either boxer. Watching someone get beat senseless is not acceptable. (Not saying that's what happened but refs have to err on the cautious side, when the result is inevitable imo. ) Re Benn Are you thinking. Chris Eubank v Michael Watson. Watson ended up with Brain Damage and Eubank was never the same after that.
Unless it’s something huge they only tend to report on world title fights (male or female) which is daft as there’s very little interest in most female world title fights. Dubois is fighting hundreds of miles from home on an undercard in Yorkshire because she can’t sell tickets.
To be fair dubois looks really good jusy needs to step up opponents now, she's boxed on callums undercards twice now and watched her interview after said she wants yorkshire fighter Terri harper next.
She’s absolutely brilliant there’s just barely any interest in women’s boxing apart from Katie Taylor. She’ll batter Harper but Harper’s team will know that & will want a fortune for the fight which is the problem.
