Oh Aberdeen. I knew it was a loan and was disappointed we didn't sign him permanently. Danny not fancy him?
I was getting worried that I may have early onset of dementia, reading this thread seems to confirm it. I can name all the players lates 70’s and 80’s but after that it all seems such a blur. Stop the world I want to get off as someone used to say.
I find it hard to remember the players in last yrs squad never mind trying to remember the forgotten ones i've forgot about them, however when certain names have been mentioned on here i remember the player's but would'nt have a clue when they were here.
In the pre-Bosman era, turnover was much lower, which helped immensely. There's just too many faces pass through clubs these days to possibly remember them all
Haha. I’ll never forget driving to work one morning & passing Dickinson stood eating a breakfast butty outside the sandwich shop on pontefract road. Him, Jamil Adam, Butterfield & Tripper were the four I used to always see out together on a Wednesday. Thankfully Butterfield & Trippier weren’t influenced too much by him.
Some beauties there. I can’t remember David Fox, Cameron Stewart or Miguel Tininho (I thought you meant Mostto until I googled him). Lee Collins sadly committed suicide a while back. I’ll always remember Miles Addison fondly for his part in the 4-1 battering of Leeds. He was pretty poor for the most part but he was outstanding that day. Sone of the others like Cameron Park & Kallum Higginbotham were just nothing players really. At the time I remember thinking surely we’ve got academy players who can do a job instead? I think the fanbase was pretty excited about Toni Silva. He came with quite a bit of hype if I remember right.
Exactly the same. I can remember games from 35 years ago as if they were yesterday but i look at the details of games from 3 years ago that i must have attended and absolutely no recollection.
I could be wrong but wasn’t cureton playing well for us st the time and Norwich recalled him before we played them because they had a striker crisis and he went and scored 2 against us? Sure I remember something like that anyway!
Its the 5 ages of being a football fan: Wanting to be a player when you grow up Realising that the players are your age Realising that the managers are your age Wanting your kids to be a player Wanting your grandkids to be a player
Here's three who NOBODY will remember .....unless you know otherwise. Brian Edgley was signed as an inside forward for us from Brentford in 1962. According to the record he played just four times, which is odd, as he was a regular over several seasons for both Brentford, Shrewsbury Town and Cardiff City. He came as a typical Reds signing, as he had a medical issue, which I think might have been that he only had one lung - sounds unlikely, but I recall that it was true. Looked a really good signing from a league above us, but he hardly played, presumably being unable to achieve the level of fitness needed. Another one was Archie Gibson, who signed from Scunthorpe United around 1964, but never played a single game for us. This was odd, as he had performed in the top flight as a wing half with Leeds United and then as a stalwart with Scunthorpe United as well. Again, he looked a really good signing from leagues above us, but he never appeared in the first team and I haven't a clue why not. One more while we are at it - Ian Pearson. I actually saw him play for the reserves in a 3-2 defeat at Doncaster Rovers, where Pearson scored both our goals with aplomb and assurance. As we had injuries, we needed to call up a reserve for the next home game and I was sure that Pearson would get the nod, but he didn't. They chose Dougie O'Connor, a spindly striker, who had done little of note in the Doncaster game. Pearson seems, like Earnshaw, to have been qualifying as a teacher, whilst playing for us, but he moved on to Millwall, where he played several seasons, scoring regularly, and then went on to Exeter City, again playing several seasons and scoring regularly. I don't know why he never made the first team.
Joe Rothewell Jordan Tunnicliffe 2 players signed on loan from Manchester United at different times who was garbage for us. Rothwell ended up having a solid career. Think he’s at Leeds now
Rothwell has had a pretty decent championship career I’d say. It was Ryan Tunnicliffe on loan from Man U wasn’t it?
That’s the one mate. A truly forgotten player edit - after googling Jordan Tunnicliffe he also played for us apparently. No idea.
