Just wow, back door route to Europe, regardless of not making any additional revenue there's more exposure on the European stage and brand building than teams in their respective leagues, surely has to be level ground, Swansea took their uefa Cup spot rightfully after winning the League Cup v Bradford, this seems unfair to me probably Hollywood FC behind pushing this.
One of the bigger teams will win it and therefore deprive a team that plays in the Welsh league European football

Thing is, they actually sign away any possibility of playing in the Europa League or Champions League through the English system if this is agreed to. They could only qualify through the Welsh League Cup and only for the Conference League.

If Wrexham did get to the Premier League, you can bet they'd then want to join back in with the English qualification eligibility.

It’s a disgrace. Suspect Disney FC are behind it to raise their profile some more and attract better players. It stinks.

No half measures. Let them all join the Welsh league permanently. See how much moneys in that for them. We’ve got plenty of English clubs to take their places.

The FA wont approve this I'm sure.

I've never really understood Welsh teams playing the English pyramid.

I bet the FA do approve it. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Wonder if the Welsh league cup is available for all EFL teams to enter level playing field and all that

I think it's an okay idea, given two caveats.

    1. The 4 can't enter the English League Cup.

    2. There's no going back. They can't opt back in if they do well enough to qualify through English football in the future.

I don’t think any of the Welsh clubs would want to opt in.
It would be easier for them to qualify for money spinning ties through qualification route than finishing in the top 4 in PL.

I am all for it if all four leave the ENGLISH Football League and play in their own league.

Let them go. It will be nice to see Cardiff City, Newport, Wrexham and Swansea qualify for the Champions League or Uefa Cup. If I was a fan of any of those teams I'd think why didn't we do it sooner. Especially with that dangling carrot.

Fath about in Championship, League 1 or Two in England for years getting nowhere or go home and win your own League, cup, treble and get in the Champions League. No brainer.

Except they want to be all aboard the PL gravy train and its riches, a certain double act are doing nothing but using the clubs national identity to build the brand and create exposure

But if the current proposals are approved, the only way they could qualify for the Europa League would be through the very unlikely event of winning the Uefa Conference League.

That's why they want to review it in 4 years in hope that they might be PL teams with a realistic chance of Europa qualifying through league position.

I have read the full article. The clubs in the welsh leagues welcome it. (Whether the fans would I'm not sure)

Cardiff City, Newport County, Swansea City and Wrexham have agreed to exclude any profit derived by representing Wales in UEFA competitions for financial regulations in the English Football League or the English Premier League

It's not a simple case of just electing to join it. It may be less worthwhile than some think. How it would raise the profile of welsh football I'm not so sure.

I'd fail to understand how a league competition could be infiltrated and allowed by eufa.

I would prefer a welsh leagues fans consultation.
Fans can influence, as was shown in the european super league debacle.

Realistically though none of those clubs are going to challenge for a CL place through the league except maybe as a one off freak season, whereas they can make much better money even in the Conference League than not qualifying for the CL.

For the ‘normal’ teams it would represent quite a big uplift in revenue by drawing the likes of Cardiff etc in a competition whereas currently they can’t which is what I’d guess is why the clubs welcome it, in terms of profile I would imagine they are hoping that regular games against the ‘big 4’ would result in more interest than currently getting.
I agree about the fans being asked as currently a few teams in Wales probably fancy their chances of winning a cup but the minute these join they never will.
Could result in short term gain, long term lose as fans become less interested as a result of lack of success.

Why would they want to review it though? Even if one of them is in the Premier League, the easier route would be to still win the Welsh league cup, surely?

No, because they can only qualify for the UEFA Conference League through the Welsh League Cup.

If they get what they want, they won't have a pathway to the Europa League (unless they win Conf. League) or Champions League.

Hence they want a chance of some European football now, before rewriting the rules again should they be competing in the Premier League as they hope to be in 4 years time.
