In my time watching id say rob Edwards, m'voto and mcnulty with a shout out for Jay mcavely I know he played left back for us but he could play ch
No way should McNulty be getting mentioned on here. He was **** in his second year with us after his health issues but was good in his first year with us winning players player of the year. De Gevigney & Earl make more mistakes than he did playing at a lower level.
Another vote for Mike Flynn. There's been others who've made cameos but he's one who stands out for playing week in, week out and doing do consistently badly. I remember hearing the team read out art Gresty Road after a fraught drive to Crewe. Against a pacy and decent (for the level) striker called Rodney Jack, we lined up with Marriott in goal and a back four or Mulligan, Crooks, Flynn, Gibbs. I joked about chalking funk on it and setting off home before kick off. We all spent the next two hours wishing I hadn't been joking.
Mike Flynn is the worst I have seen at centre half. He was not the worst in that team though. That honour has to go to Paul Gibbs, he was quite simply not a footballer. He did have the claim to fame of dating Helen Chamberlain which far surpassed his football achievements. Starting those two imbeciles was worse than playing with 9 men.
Keith Brown only played 11 times, but I seem to remember him being really good when on loan, and many were happy when he signed. His final game in the playoff final was very poor, but I can’t remember much about the games in between.
I've spoken to Mike Flynn. He absolutely hates Barnsley, he described the fan base as 'weird'. Not a very likeable bloke. To be fair to him he was finished when he came to us which didn't help.
I thought Adie Moses and Chris Morgan were 5hit. Good trier's but limited footballers. Reckon they were part of reason we got relegated from Premier League.
I thought Steve Chettle was past it too when we signed him. Maybe my standards are/ were too high. However, if you're going to do sumat, do it right. I don't look back on the Premiership and Millennium seasons as fondly as I should do because it highlights the most mismanaged period in our history too. Some of the decisions made in recruitment and infrastructure hamstrung the club for years after the initial hoo hah.
Mike Flynn for me but notable mentions for the following: David Tuttle Matt Carbon Peter Handyside Craig Ireland Tom Kennedy
Mentioning those two in a conversation about worst ever is as laughable as it is disrespectful. Adie was a key part of the promoted team and was a lot more than an also ran m, he was a key component; Morgan is hated by many at Barnsley for a very obvious reason but he made his debut as a youngster in the premier league and won the player of the season in 99-00 in a team containing Hignett, Shipperley, Dyer, Barnard. He also stayed after relegation and in administration for a season - if he’d gone (him and Bruce Dyer) - I still think we’d have gone straight down again to what is now league two. Mentioning Moses and Morgan in the same breath as Brown, Flynn, McNulty, dangerous Bryan - they’re streets ahead. They would both walk into the current team.
Mike Flynn for me, forever and a day. Put Wiseman and Kennedy either side in a three with Regan and Gibbs at wing back for the complete set of torture.
