No they haven’t. They were ‘fixed’ and have recently become ‘unfixed’. Still poor but let’s get our facts right

Thought I read ( around the adverts), the council would like them to ? If so some don’t like being forced into a move

Pretty sure the council will offer them decent terms to move. Wouldn’t surprise me if they end up on the ground floor in the Alhambra considering the council own that and the upstairs is being converted to healthcare. There’s no unit big enough in the Glassworks.

There’s no chance that’ll happen. If anything, even more towns and cities will lose M&S from the centres in favour of a retail park. Doncaster is closing this year. I’m sure Wakefield will be on a list to move too considering much bigger cities and towns have lost theirs already.

I’ve heard the building in the town centre is in a bit of a mess.

Take it the one that was gonna be Boom bar is dead space ? Not really practical for a shop.
Seems to have gone quiet on Alhambra plans.

The Alhambra plans are progressing. There’s scaffolding on it now to remove all the mock Tudor and repair damaged cladding. Plans also went in last week to remove a condition placed on the site when it was first built which stipulated it could only be used for retail.

The two vacant leisure units in the Glassworks aren’t really suitable for retail. They don’t have enough active frontage at ground level and that puts a lot of retailers off.

Also instead of people getting angry at the council about the lifts why don't they focus their anger in the right direction. At the nobheads who keep vandalising them and the **** parents who don't know or care what their kids are doing every night

Lifts were working fine the other day.

Also there is a notice outside Fridays that a new licence has been applied for by someone, opening hours up to 2am at weekends.

Presumably some other restaurant/ late night bar but not sure if a big chain or independent.

I *think* it’s the company that own the Katie O’Brien’s Irish bars, but whether they’re planning on opening one of those in Barnsley I’ve no idea. The licence is for Kobit-K Ltd but it’s easy to do a bit of digging on companies house to see who owns the business and what their other interests are.

I did have a little dig online, but couldn't see much about the business type for the directors of Kobit-K.

Surely got to be food based though with the money that was spent kitting the place out originally.

I hope its not yet another real ale and craft ale-free party/cocktail/sports bar. There's so, so many places you can go for a lager, a cocktail, a dance or to watch the football in town now. Nowhere dedicated to craft beer though. Surprised maison du biere haven't tried opening a place in town again, the one they had for a little bit just off Wellington Street was great.
