I don't think they had much choice really sure they came hear as part of a consortium, I believe they naively thought we'd be the next Brentford and as a championship club at the time, could potentially reach the PL and they'd turn over a profit. Clearly it didn't go to plan and they weren't ailigned to Conway & Lee, at that point there was no cash in the bank barely and we'd been relegated from the championship, it would have been an ideal time to cut their loses and leave rather than doing what they did in reducing Conway and Lee's influence. They genuinely care, not without faults and make poor decisions at times, but I do believe they want us to be successful, they've implemented a modern day structure behind the scenes staff wise, even though I think it's the wrong way, but that's just me and they are looking to make us better off the pitch by driving revenues, whilst trying to give us a competitive team. If we finish in the playoffs again it will be 3 years running, I don't believe that would represent owners who weren't in it to make us successful or sorts.
It’s not his opinions that are the problem Andy. It’s the fact he only has opinions when we lose, the fact he disappears when we win. And the fact that there is rarely, if ever, one positive about anything. I’m not sure anyone doesn’t think there is at least some validity in some of his points.
Im normally sick of Scott's constant negative comments as well. But he's not wrong there is he, with those comments above. And todays disappointing match has shown it up even more. However, its absolutely not ruined our season has it, we're still 5th I think. So there's no need for his knee-jerk type of over reactions. (certainly not yet anyway!).
Birmingham spent £20m in the summer, Huddersfield have just spent 4m how do we compete with that Everything is relative if you think about it in simple terms when we got promoted to the PL in 97 we spent 6.75m net, Newcastle spent 33m and finished 9pts better off that's 3m per point. We can only recruit with the resources we have, it means we won't be in for big fees or wages and we'll be recruiting from a smaller but much more competitive pool of players, some will choose other clubs, some we may get, time to judge is when the window closes.
What changed is the focus of the recruitment process from improving the squad immediately by meeting the needs of the squad to filling the squad with cheap punts, every window since the various versions of the consortium took over the squad has been weakened. We have brought players in to fill positions already filled and left other positions short. We have always sold our better players eventually but in the past we recruited for the benefit of the first team in the positions managers identified as weaknesses. We have adopted a scatter gun approach to recruitment and it's failed
Which is why we have such a bloated squad with mediocre out of favour players we can’t move on to free up cash to bring anyone in. We’ve managed to get Marsh a loan but need to do the same for Lofthouse, Benson and Cosgrove too as a minimum.
Usually I would agree. And I've no issue with warranted criticism. But this snivelling runt of a fan never posts anything positive when we win. Not a sausage. Then he wwnks himself into a frenzy when we lose, as though its his deepest hearts desire to see it happen. He's a cowardly, spineless toad, who deserves all the contempt he gets.
Since the current owners took over they inherited players that had played at championship level, after relegation we had to subside a loss of TV money by selling players off, surely you recognise that relegation means we no longer can replace championship players sold with championship quality players on L1 income ? As for cheap punts like I said some work some don't, in the 96/97 season we had a net spend of 25k, a team made up of youth players, freebies, players from non league like Sheridan and bullock, its not that we are doing much differently, but more the game has changed there's much more data nowadays, players hold more power and wages are out of control.
" teams who have promotion ambitions aren’t messing about, they are identifying targets & being ruthless by bringing them in. No messing about. " They are teams with money....sod all to do with just ambition.
I don’t understand why folk are a***d though. There’s loads of people on here I don’t often respond to. Because I know there’s no benefit in engaging. It’s a place - for some - to let off steam. Even I’ve had a bit of a whinge in the match thread today. Don’t get me wrong, I can see where you and plenty of others are coming from. But it’d be a dull place were we all to agree and hold the same opinions.
I assume every win we get is also completely on the board then? That's the only logical conclusion to your statement.
I agree with a lot of what he’s said - particularly today. Just winds me up with his predictability. Changing tack - you’ve been high of opinion about Watters in the past from memory - my view is that today wasn’t so much a bad day at office for him but actually indicative of his poor finishing ability generally. What are your thoughts?1
Whilst Scott only ever seems to post when we don't win... He has a point. We'd won 4 in a row before this and how many did our so called "forwards" score? Watters is a useless turd. I say this with no hyperbole - I could do what he does. Run around a bit and jump for headers. Would I score the chances put on a plate for him? Maybe. Maybe not. Weird how he chooses the wrong option virtually every time though. Cosgrove. Not a footballer. Would struggle to remember his name to be able to sign on. The board have, whatever you want to mewl at, shafted us by letting Cole and McAtee go without proper replacements.
I admit that its unfair to suggest that our owners and recruitment team did f*k all!. Regarding the search for a striker to replace Dev Cole. How do we know that they didn't do anything, I'm sure they tried right until the last minute actually. However... no deal was done at the end of the day, and in fairness they had more than long enough to sort something out. I've tried my best to defend Cosgrove and Watters in the past, like a lot of fans have done. But its getting near impossible to keep doing so now.
Exactly. Just like people are free to hold the opinion that when a poster only comes on here after a loss, it makes them a complete Hemsworth. He's free to post what he likes, I'm free to question it. Although I've just called him a nob, which is probably a bit out of order but I'm pssed off we've lost and it gets right on my nerves when he reappears once a month.
