quite a few times lately there has been technical difficulties and there has been no commentary, just crowdnoise, for say ten minutes, before they fixed the 'problem'. What a joy that ten minutes was. This last match, after the first ten minutes, I turned off the audio and watched the match in silence. A silent match is not a great experience but it rates higher than radio sheffield (even if Adie is on there).
Against Wrexham we had to listen to a commentator who disregarded Barnsley. I'm not sure who he worked for.

In covid times there was no commentary and there was no crowd at the games and so it was a bit like a training match. Still, I preferred this than with commentary.

Callum, our own current commentator, is as good as any and he is reds-centric so I'm okay with him... but he talks all the time... all the time...

This is not a complaint, I just wondered if there were any other ifollow regulars who prefer to just watch and listen to the match. Please respond if you have an opinion on this.

I thought Adie was superb yesterday in his summary.

    Passionate and intelligent.

    Top lad is Adie

It was a joy listening to Adie.
Told it exactly as it was, pulled no punches and his comments should be broadcast to everyone at the club to make them understand what it's like being a football fan who has to endure what they serve at their table.

I don't get the negativity towards the Radio Sheffield commentators. I think they do a good job, and the bias is skewed ever so slightly in favour of Barnsley without being blinkered.

My only criticism is their insistence on pointing out every player who has played for another local side. I didn't need reminding 7 times yesterday that Grant Ward used to play for Rotherham.

Otherwise, I find it a good service.

I have audio only so when there’s only crowd noise I literally only hear that. Same when they go around the other grounds, I lose all access to what is going on in our game. When there’s biased away commentators, I can’t even see how well we’re doing to know they’re talking a load of rubbish.

My criticisms are: they go around the other grounds meaning I don’t have a fricking clue what is happening in our game at the time, not so bad when you’re listening for free on the radio but an absolute liberty when I’m paying Barnsley to listen to them. Also just that Barnsley are charging full stop for that, especially when it’s a bait and switch in the middle of the season. If they advertised it as ‘who wants to pay for a completely free service you can get elsewhere?’ then I’d know not to part with my cash. It’s annoying when I’ve paid upfront and then it’s not our commentators (and, as mentioned, on those days I don’t get to hear all of our match, it even missed a goal when they had them last time they binned off Matt!)

Aye, that is annoying. Though it only happens if we're the FM commentary, which is few and far between as its usually either one of the Sheffield clubs.

    hey Jamdrop,
I understand your frustration. And I know that you are a positive person and not a complainer. The one commentary for both audio and video consumers means that neither group gets an "A" grade experience. I can't see how they could make an easy fix. So I guess we just 'suck it up' ... maybe it is a first world problem (ie not a problem really)
By putting up this post I wanted to see if other ifollow video users are frustrated by 'over-commentating'. My ideal would be to receive live feed with zero or very minimal commentary. The lack of response to this post tells me to get over it. Fair enough.

(enjoy the second half, Jamdrop. onwards to Wemberlee)
