I never saw Robledo (met his family though). So I’ll go with: Arjan de Zeeuw Mads Andersen Daryl Dike Honourable mentions for Knasmüllner, Ten Heuvel and Tedic.
Anderson deSilva. What a player. I always thought him missing the 2008 semifinal through injury cost us a place in the final. We would surely have beaten Cardiff with him in the side.
Souza was outstanding really, when you look back compared to what we have today. Top 3 - another vote for de Zeeuw, Marcelle and Bosancic
I found it so hard to not include him in my opening post. He was class. So comfortable on the ball and just oozed quality. Another one who got injured tho and probably wasn’t the same when he came back. Definitely missed him in the Fa Cup Semi Final.
He gets a mention in this 'best foreign player' thread and also the 'worst defender' thread. How different people see the game.
Not saying the greatest we have had but I did like Ales Krizan when he played. Think he broke his leg which sealed his exit if I remember correctly
Arjan de Zeeuw the best I’ve seen by a long way Heinz Mueller - brilliant. Just brilliant. Jan Aage Fjortoft - great clip to sign him and his movement was unreal. I’m sure Robledo would begin there but never saw him play.
What was Wilson thinking, signing both Ten Heuvel and Van Der Velden. He was surely looking for another De Zeeuw, but weren't they both midfielders/strikers ?.
Thing is, had Clint not scored that we’d have still clinched promotion that day and Paul Wilkinson would be the one who scored the goal that clinched promotion for us. Would he have been feted in the same way? Probably not, as a first half slow-motion, headed goal wasn’t as perfect as the finish and the timing of Clint’s. As it was, we could have lost that match and still gone up, as Wolves never reached the points tally that we already had prior to the Bradford game. But I’ve often wondered what Wilko thinks about the ‘Clint scored to clinch promotion’ thing. It was without a doubt the greatest moment ever (sorry kids!) but it actually clinched promotion as much as Denis Law’s backheel relegated Man United. I wouldn’t change it though!
