It's estimated on tranfermarket City paid €3m to the club he has now returned to, on a free during 23/24.

Totally agree. Its what's happening long term. Clarke seems to have stabilised the football spectacle on the pitch and there are signs of improvement even with a dodgy defence and no obvious striker. Stick with the manager and back him (at the moment). He's doing better than Collins

Depending on what the expectations were, when we appointed Clarke.
I would have thought fans should be at least ok with our progress. Its better than I expected at the moment anyway, and we're nicely placed in 5th.
So a Play off push is definitely possible this season, if they want it enough!.

    "He's doing better than Collins"...
After 26 games Collins had 49 pts.

I'm not talking about points. I'm talking about football, passing, movement, creation of chances and overall enjoyability of games. I was alluding to that. Collins also had a striker and, overall an arguably stronger squad. So for me Clarke is doing better and the points total is actually quite encouraging. Things aren't great but they're a bit better. You may disagree with all of that of course.

To an outsider, with us sitting in the top six, he looks a good manager/coach, but I think he's been very lucky, he is tactically suspect, he comes across aggressively in interviews, trying to give a Clough vibe, (it doesn't work) he made the 'Make Oakwell a fortress' statement and unfortunately Oakwell has been breached and pillaged more than York did by the Vikings.
I don't like the fella, I still think he's an imposter/charlatan, at the opening game against Mansfield, hus own centre half had to run over to yhe bench and tell him to change formation as we were getting mullered all over the pitch, it was evident to me the lad was out of his depth.

I think he’s doing a very good job bearing in mind he has National League strikers and defenders to work with.

We've scored more than Wrexham and Huddersfield so he's doing well with his "National League " strikers.

True...but the OP said 'doing better than Collins' when it's not the case. I agree though Collins had some better players....more so Duff the previous year. With the players available I don't think he's doing a bad job so far.

Collins probably did have a better squad. But he also had Williams, Lopata, Shepherd and a very green MDG in defence for a while. He’d have loved Earl, Pines and Roberts from day one. Losing Pines last season absolutely killed us.

Do you think ? I like pines for his goal scoring threat but as a defender i think he’s very suspect indeed with loads to learn. I think he’s often caught wrong side of his man and isn’t strong enough in duels. He’s brilliant in the air , but would be far from my first choice centre half . I think Earl for example is streets ahead.

I think you’re missing what I posted. We badly lacked a big centre half for much of Neill’s tenure. Someone to attack the ball aerially in both boxes. Once Pines arrived, the impact was obvious. As was the drop off in form once that option was no longer there.

In terms of Pines as a player, I think there’s more to like than not. And our record when he starts is much better than when he doesn’t. Could be a coincidence I suppose.

I’m not at my laptop right now, but there’s some statistical software on it, and no defender has made as many errors leading to goals than Earl. Not to say I don’t rate him. Kitching had a similar issue and he went for £5,000,000. I like all of MDG, Roberts, Pines, McCarthy and Earl. For the level, they’re all good enough. It’s up to DC to pick the best three for each opponent I suppose. It would also help if the holding midfielder did that - held. Luca keeps pushing on and it’s leaving the back three exposed.

But my point earlier was that Neill had Jordan at centre half. And a very raw Maël. Plus two kids in Shepherd and Lopata.
So whilst he may have had a better squad overall, his defence was much weaker.
