Do we really want to play championship football next season with this crop of players? We would be the leagues whipping boys, getting battered week in week out, much like the first half of the 2019/20 season under Stendal before lockdown. I think we all need to take a step back, & calm down a bit. Yes, today’s result & performance wasn’t acceptable, but we can move on quickly with the realisation as a collective that this is a rebuild job. Is Clarke the right man for such a task? We might as well find out & give him a chance, let’s have a bit of stability for a change on the managerial front. The pressing concern is the recruitment setup imo, things need to change on that front, & of course the matchday experience. Ultimately we just ain’t good enough yet to mix with the real promotion contenders. Let’s build a side to mount a real challenge who can make the step up to at least be able to compete in the league above.
Never turn down promotion. If we did manage to get promoted, I’m not sure this would be our starting line up anyway - I’d be worried if it was.
We need out of this league asap. The money is needed to stabilise. Even if it’s one year up and back down it will help. Never, ever turn down promotion. Not that I think it’s a concern we will have this year anyway.
Do I want us to be earning many millions more and playing better teams in front of bigger crowds? Yes. Clearly if we went up we would make wholesale changes.
It would be beneficial for the club to be promoted if the opportunity arose, but I am not at all sure I'd fancy renewing my season ticket to witness it.
Of course we want this side to be promoted, what a daft question. We can and would have to rebuild for the Championship. Portsmouth were seen as a side streets ahead of anyone last season, so it shows that choose what side you reach the Championship with, you need to properly rebuild.
I only said to the current Mrs DR, that it is increasingly difficult for teams promoted from league one to establish themselves in the Championship. We are a better than average League One team but IF we were to win promotion this side would need a major overhaul just to have a chance of staying up.
Of course we do because we can recruit better players with more income. Oxford have just signed Helik. They aren’t signing Helik if they were still in league one.
No, and neither do I. I'm worried that if we do go up, we'll walk past Sainsburys and go shopping at Nettos or Costcutters instead.
I mean Wednesday were last season's whipping boys until they did their typical deedar getaway act for the last 3 games. If we did get promoted we just have to hope that the same happens where 3 teams just inadvertantly give up on the Championship completely.
I’d take promotion whenever it comes. This team however, would struggle to get 20 points without wholesale changes. There’s a bit of a problem here though. We’re told by the powers that be that we’re making massive losses. Revenues from promotion would just about wipe out those losses… but nothing more. So in a higher league we’d still be in the position where we’d have to hope Parekh was willing to subsidise losses if they wanted to buy ‘better’ players and create a squad that they felt was competitive. It perhaps highlights that out cost structure is out of control and needs getting a grip of.
I just want to be back in the championship. Hopefully ( and you need plenty of that a a fan)they would learn from past mistakes and make the team stronger over the summer.
