He’s definitely amongst the worst finishers I can remember. That’s not to say he doesn’t have other attributes.
He totally played his way out of the team under Collins so credit to him for the huge improvement and goals to minutes ratio this season. I personally find him frustrating and think we should expect more from a striker.
So do I. But he’s nowhere near the worst player we’ve had. He’s not even the worst in our squad. Exactly the theme of this thread - over reaction - because he missed chances at Bristol Rovers. Fans love someone to crucify.
Pearson was the one I thought of but he scored goals at a higher level throughout his career but he’s sort of on a par with Max. Again I defend Max to the hilt he puts the work in. Even Someone like Gareth Williams when he played his few games upfront was far better.
I totally agree that he's not the worst but it's up to him now to show some character and grab the remainder of the season by the horns, if not we need to move him on in the summer.
I’d definitely say he’s not in the top 20 worst forwards that have ever played for us. Willy Ferry still wins comfortably. Regular first choice strikers he is much closer the top.
I dispute that tbh. Although I don’t think Williams was a striker really. I think he played there as we had nothing else. Sounds familiar.
Selected as a forward 4 times. Scored 6 goals. I think he is statistically our best ever forward!!! im trying to remember 70a regular first choice forwards pre Clarke but they ware a blur in my mind.
The thing about Watters are his strengths are channel running and quick transition balls. We do neither. Yesterday Stevenage played some great channel balls not passing to a person but passing to a space. Max would thrive off that. He is not the forward for a slow build up team. I do think if we mixed our game up and used the channels better he would thrive.
I remember Peachey and he was quite good. I’m a bit too young for Peter Price but my grandad wasn’t a fan.
Just for balance if they gave me chance I could be best centre forward they've ever seen. You never know.
Both were basically Division 4 strikers and had been journeymen. But saying that they both had their moments
Were you at the game yesterday? It’s not just about missed chances. To be fair, he wasn’t the only one who didn’t turn up.
I was hoping we’d turned the corner after the Wrexham and Crawley home wins, and that’s what made yesterday so disappointing. The difference between between most home and away days is huge. It’s like watching two different clubs. No one fears us at Oakwell. They come with a remit to chip away at us and we’ll unravel. I’ll be at Wycombe on Tuesday, and even though they’re chasing automatic, I feel more confident than I do for Burton at Oakwell.
