When we played pre-season at Loughborough University I remember Clarke saying 'I was never smart to come here, that's for sure' and pretty much every week I'm convinced he was speaking the truth.
Aye there's been a documentary and a movie in last 10 years or so. Movie is called The Keeper if you fancy it.
Has anything been said about the keeper situation? Seems a bit bonkers if it was tactical in the days of having 7 subs. My guess is he’s got injured in the warm up or come down with that horrible flu that’s going round.
Cheers for the mention YT With respect, I was asked how often we'd subbed the goalie. Not how often we needed one. I gave a quick answer as opposed to a detailed one, then followed up with 'keepers sent off added into the calculation. You can, and I do have records of all reported keepers' retiring from the game through injury. You just need 14 years, access to the British Newspaper Archive and no social life.
Even that wouldn't have helped with the question "is it worth having a keeper on the bench" though. Because you won't know how many times before the substitute goalkeeper era that keepers soldiered on but hampered by an injury during the game. By the way, sorry, I wasn't having a go at your stats, sorry if it came across like that, just saying that the stats produced don't answer the question as to the statistical frequency of whether there's be a benefit to carrying a keeper or not
You’re right. Nobody could know if a goalie would have been subbed, had one been available. I just answered the question I was asked. Namely, how often have we used a sub goalie? ‘Absolute nonsense stat’ does come across that way a bit yeah. Never mind though, no harm done. I know my research is as accurate as, if not more so than anyone else’s on our club.
