but having a spot of bother with the car;13 plate Nissan Juke 1.5D.

    The following functions have all failed at the same time;

    headlight flash,
    intermittent wipe
    and double speed wipe.

Everything else is ok; indicators, dipped beam, main beam, fog lights, hazard lights windscreen wash front and rear. I have tried replacing the steering column switch unit and all the faults are still the same. I read somewhere that these sort of problems can be caused by a faulty Body Control Module. Is this likely? If not can anyone suggest where the problem may be?

Chat gpt says... (might be useful, might not but it does suggest BCM)

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your Nissan Juke. Given that the headlight flash, intermittent wipe, and double-speed wipe functions have all failed simultaneously, it does suggest a potential electrical issue rather than a problem with the individual components themselves.

Here are a few possibilities to consider:

    1. **Body Control Module (BCM)**: As you mentioned, the BCM is responsible for controlling various electrical functions in the vehicle. If it is malfunctioning, it could lead to the symptoms you're experiencing. A diagnostic scan can help determine if there are any fault codes related to the BCM.

    2. **Fuses**: Check the fuses related to the affected functions. A blown fuse could cause multiple functions to fail. Refer to your owner's manual for the location of the fuse box and the specific fuses for the headlight flash and wiper functions.

    3. **Wiring Issues**: Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors related to the steering column and the BCM. Look for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections that could be causing an intermittent fault.

    4. **Steering Column Wiring**: Since you've replaced the steering column switch unit, ensure that the wiring leading to and from the switch is intact. Sometimes, the wiring can become damaged or frayed, leading to issues with the functions controlled by the switch.

    5. **Ground Connections**: Poor ground connections can lead to erratic electrical behavior. Check the ground points related to the BCM and the affected functions to ensure they are clean and secure.

    6. **Relay Issues**: Some functions may be controlled by relays. Check the relays associated with the wipers and headlights to see if they are functioning properly.

If you're not comfortable diagnosing these issues yourself, it may be best to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or an auto electrician who can perform a thorough diagnostic check. They will have the tools and expertise to pinpoint the problem more accurately.

Many thanks mate. my brother-in-law turned up with a code reader just now and the only fault code is P0380 - glow plug malfunction - which is not a surprise, it's been difficult to start just of late :(.

I've not seen any signs of frayed wiring and I've checked all the fuses. I'm fairly sure that there are no relays for any of the functions that have stopped working.

I've had the BCM out, fairly easy to get at behind the glove box and waiting for a price for a replacement.

So I asked it about the glow plug problem...

The P0380 code indicates a malfunction in the glow plug system, which is typically associated with diesel engines. This code specifically refers to a problem with the glow plug heater circuit. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. **Check the Glow Plugs**: Inspect the glow plugs for any signs of damage or wear. If they are faulty, they may need to be replaced.

    2. **Inspect the Glow Plug Relay**: The relay controls the power to the glow plugs. If it is malfunctioning, it may not be supplying power to the plugs. Test the relay and replace it if necessary.

    3. **Examine Wiring and Connectors**: Look for any damaged or corroded wiring and connectors in the glow plug circuit. Repair or replace any damaged components.

    4. **Test the Glow Plug Control Module**: If your vehicle is equipped with a control module for the glow plugs, it may be malfunctioning. Testing or replacing this module may be necessary.

    5. **Check for Other Codes**: Sometimes, other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can provide additional context for the issue. Make sure to check for any related codes.

    6. **Consult a Professional**: If you're unable to diagnose or fix the issue yourself, it may be best to consult a professional mechanic who can perform a more thorough inspection and repair.

Addressing the P0380 code promptly is important, as it can affect engine starting and performance, especially in colder conditions.

It might possibly need coding to car if you change the BCM

    headlight flash,
    intermittent wipe
    and double speed wipe

Are they all controlled from the same stalk?...if so it could be a faulty stalk.

If you need professional help I can recommend EMP Auto Electrical 01226 286163. They're located behind the petrol station at bottom end of Summer Lane (the Barnsley one)

Headlamp flash is on the left, wipers on the right. I've replaced the entire switch unit and the faults remain :(

Probably need a top end diagnostic tool to do it

Glad you've said that. Got mine booked in next week. Warning lamps issue. Hopefully suspect sensor/s. As they all come on at the same time at varying intervals.

Have you checked the fuse, One fuse can control multiple circuits,If they are ok Go to EMP for a diagnosis. They're brilliant lads and not too dear, I've used them a couple of times. Don't buy a BCM until you've at least talked to an expert. Car electrics are a nightmare these day
