I know its the Sun and maybe they have their own nefarious agenda but I think the article hopefully highlights that it is difficult to come out as gay full stop, and no doubt that was difficult enough, the sad fact is that in the world of football its even harder due to the culture - both in the dressing room and the stands. I feel sorry for the guy and I hope he can beat his demons, but also that doesn't excuse his actions in that role and his ill advised comments so he couldn't continue in the job.
Most people, in 2025, can declare their sexual orientation to the world in the UK and a) no once cares and b) very few people use it as a weapon to attack you with. If you are a football player or referee you stand to have hundreds if not thousands of people abusing you for your sexuality every week from the terraces every time you have a bad game or make a mistake, and realistically those who do it are likely to get away Scott free unless other fans are going to report them. Considering racism in the stands is alive and well I can’t see that happening. Im not sure I believe the “drugs as an escape” argument, but I’m sure that David Coote will have taken PR advice before being exposed by the Sun and will have interviewed accordingly. All it has actually done is distracted away from the football element of the story when he basically admitted to hating Klopp and the stats (I believe) back up his dislike of Liverpool. Whilst his sexuality does highlight a separate issue, it’s not why he was sacked, which was for bringing the game into disrepute.
I agree in general, the gutter press is **** and serves zero purpose but Caroline flack. Meh. Domestic abuser who took the cowards way out rather than face the music for her actions.
He's just grabbing money back from the pink pound for me. Plenty cashing in on being gay these days. I wish I was gay.
What's he said wrong? Get off your high horse. He isn't a homophobe and because you can't bait him you're taking bat and ball home.
Anyone who commits suicide to avoid justice for violent or sexual crimes is a coward in my opinion. Fred west is a good example of what I mean. To clarify I don't think people who commit suicide are cowards, I solely think people who do so to avoid justice are.
Ah yes, all that gay money in football. And I'm sure this will endear him to those gay loving Saudis for reffing abroad. Did you even think before making that post?
