We will. Staying in a lovely looking lodge park just outside Canterbury, so very centrally placed to get anywhere in the county in under an hour. Shropshire / Herefordshire is definitely on the list. The one known trip I really want to do is the North Coast 500, but that may have to wait until I finish work as it needs quite a few days to do it justice and it's a helluva drive just to get there and back again. Plus hopefully, by the time I get to do it, there may be more charging options up there so I don't have to rely on Charge Place Scotland.
Canterbury is a really good place to venture, Folkestone has developed quite a lot after quite a few DFL’s moved there and a decent amount of regeneration. Rochester is worth a short pit stop too, if only for a wander down the high street, the castle and cathedral. Before you get into the countryside and smaller villages.
We bought a motorhome in 2021 (it was 25 years old and we replaced it with a new one in 2023) and have seen lots of odd places in the UK worth a visit, including; The Wirral, Simmons Yat, Malvern, Northumberland coast (especially Holy Island), Durham (city), North and South Shields, Weymouth, Lymington, Nympsfield (near M5 north of Bristol), Thornham, Tenby, Mumbles, Exminster (by the river Exe), Corfe Castle, Stirling, Falkirk, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries, Skye, Arran, Tarbert, Crinan, Belfast, Castle Fergus, Giant's Causway, Bushmills, Derry - the list goes on....
I get that view but I think I’ll go one day. I might end up regretting it if it’s too upsetting. What I don’t understand is these people that have pictures of themselves there like it’s some tourist attraction. I saw a bloke posing for selfies in his Celtic shirt (who on earth wears a football top to Auschwitz?!). Another one was former British boxer Jamie McDonnell who grinned for photos all round the place with his ex Mrs. Even Starmer last week, I thought them photos were crass. I can’t see why him & his wife are walking round Auschwitz posing for photos. It’s just not one of those types of places.
Just watched Schindler's List on iPlayer. I thought it appropriate on this important anniversary. Very moving and thought provoking film. The end bit where the real people filed past his grave had me in tears.
I visited Dacau, the standout thing I noticed was it's location, middle of the town. It would be nonsense to suggest they didn't know what was happening there. You cannot even imagine how the first soldiers who liberated those camps would have felt greeted with that.
Glad someone as put this thread back on track with the original subject matter. It had turned into an episode of Wickers World (showing my age there). A stereo typical social media look at me fest.
It’s very likely that they did. But what could they do about it? Complain to the government or local authority? Who just happen to be the Nazis. You’d be shot, imprisoned or thrown into the camp. Easy for us to judge sitting here.
Yes same here. The whole film is stunning but that end bit was the most emotional part. Not forgetting of course the young girl in a red coat escaping the transport but still ending up on the cart with other bodies later on. I’ve seen this film a few times over the years and it still affects me from beginning to end.
I've watched it a few times and even though it's 3 hours long the time just flies by. One of the best films I've seen.
