You're correct in the big picture but if this is correct does it not strike you as a non-priority at the moment and a further addition to a bloated squad?
There's room for improvement in every single position. Norris played every game when Portsmouth were promoted as Champions last season. He wouldn't have been coming to play second fiddle to Killip, who let's not forget was getting pelters from the majority of fans until recently.
Jackson Smiths career has pretty much been on hold since he joined us, no good when you are wanting to develop a player. Killip is not the answer and should not be the number 1 for a League 1 team with aspirations of promotion. Nowhere near good enough long term.
Would have been a good signing but certainly think there’s other areas we should be prioritising. Could be any number of reasons he has rejected the move.
As much as I don't think Killip is the long-term solution, he's done well since replacing Slonina and it would be harsh to drop him before his performances dip. If you're Will Norris, you're relocating up north, likely reducing your pay packet, dropping a division and still not forced to be number 1. Not surprising that he's turned it down.
Two of the greatest keepers in our history, Clive Baker and David Watson, were under 6 foot. Ben Killip is 6 foot 2 - and taller than those two, Brad Collins, Kevin Miller, Andy Marriott, Adam Davies, Liam Roberts and Harry Isted. Same height as Luke Steele. I’d have any of those. Some keepers that were taller include Sasa Ilic, Gaga Slonina, Sam Radlinger, even Vito Mannone was a cm taller… Never fall in love with a tall keeper. (And Killip isnt even short!!!)
We are losing 8 million quid a year. We've got a defence that is absolutely ***** We have zero box to box midfielders We have no strikers that can even spell the world goal We have got about an adequate goalkeeper and a backup Why the **** would we be wasting time and money trying to sign a new one?
In truth, as in, whatever the true reason why he's decided not to come, the fact Barnsley is a long way from Portsmouth is more than likely not it. I say that as he's a Burnley lad, so he's not going to be averse to living in the North.
I genuinely do believe players take this into consideration. 100% in my opinion - especially if they're already at a club or/and already decently paid.
