Australian international goalkeeper signs on loan from Aston Villa. Frequently on the bench for Aston Villa for most premier league and champions league games this season but never made an appearance as of yet
https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2025/january/30/gauci-heads-on-loan-to-barnsley/ I had keeper way down our list of priorities in these past few days. I doubt Villa loaned him to use to warm our bench.
Young international goalkeeper who’s never played a professional game in England. That combination worked well last time Edit: Apologies, that should be limited game time (thank you wiki).
https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=114803 He's played 2 league cup games and 3 internationals this season.
I'm completely bewildered by this signing. Ben Killip has proven he's good enough and Jackson Smith was brought in as a future first team keeper. This signing was not needed.
He was linked to Norwich last season. & Reading some comments from Aston Villa fans they were hoping to see him play more.. one fan even said " I hope Martinez gets injured so Gauci gets a chance "
Is it just me missing something here? but we've borrowed someone's Keeper with virtually no experience of league league football to put on the bench and look to be sending out the keeper we own, who at least has EFL game experience, other than Smith getting a few games it's barmy
For whatever reason, they seem determined to send Smith out on loan, rather than use him as a backup option. It's bizarre, and suggests that they don't have confidence to use him without giving him game time somewhere else.
All I can imagine is that one of our senior pro defenders has had a quiet word with the coaching team and said that the defenders are unhappy with the communication/organisation of Ben Killip. He’s proved he’s a great shot stopper.
