I always felt Murphy getting Dike led part of the reason he ended up leaving, no evidence to back up just a hunch.
Killip's a decent shot stopper, he'll feel hard done by to have been replaced. But his dificiencies on crosses, and in particular on corners, are obvious and couldn't be allowed to continue. Ever since the Leyton Orient game teams have targeted him and put every single corner right under his nose or to the far post. He's dealt with some of them - got a punch or at least something on a few of them - but we look vulnerable from every one. That can't go on. Wheteher Gauci is any better, time will tell. But I can 100% see why Killip will return to the bench. We still need a striker or two though. That we can all agree on!
Plenty of times against Wycombe he came to punch and got away with it without being convincing. Credit where due though he kept coming and trying which was more than Gaga did.
Killip is not good enough it's simple...he has no presence. Every corner he flaps or gets out muscled. Full credit to our manager being bold enough to bring a new no1 in.
The chances of Clarke having made the decision to bring a keeper in are slim. He will have been consulted, to a certain extent. The chances of him having chosen Gauci as that goalkeeper are practically zero. We probably had a list of two or three that would have been put to him - and it is apparent Gauci wasn’t the top of that list as the Will Norris offer isn’t just rumour from what I understand. Regardless, it doesn’t look a bad signing. Though if budget has been used here which means other areas won’t be addressed it can’t be seen to be a good one. Goalkeeper wasn’t the position that needed most attention. A hybrid of Lev Yashin and Gordon Banks would have conceded plenty in this team.
Strange putting on ABC radio on my drive home this evening and following a bit about an AFL draft pick it was "Barnsley Football Club have signed... Head coach Darrell Clarke had this to say..." Fifteen seconds of realisation that we exist before Aussies go back to being fed 'EPL' updates.
