OT: I'm turning 30 soon - what do you wish you knew at 30?

Absolutely mate; Think I know every episode word for word and it reminds me of happy times at our old house a year or so before we started a family and spoilt everything. Outstanding, innocent comedy.

Only episodes I wasn't keen on were the later comic relief type ones, that seemed to be rolled out for the sake of it.

 

Drink more, travel more, gamble more, have more fun, and above all don't waste your youth listening to the advice of boring old farts on here.

 

Travel.

 

Health is your real wealth. Look after yourself mentally as well as physically.

 

Age is only a number mate, don’t worry about it, just enjoy your life to full. We have all been there saying I can’t believe I am 30/40/50 or whatever age. You are still very young pal, just don’t start saying you old or else you’ll start acting old before your time like some I’ve known.

 

Live for the day. If it felt like a pivotal moment. It was and it's passed you by. You sometimes don't get that second chance.

 

Your legacy is your family and children. Nothing else matters and you can’t take it with you.

 

Definitely don't smoke, lost lots of friends through it, don't work more than you have too, keep active and tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, sometimes you don't get the chance. Plus follow another team.ha

 

I turned 50 on Sunday.
Look after your knees (although at 30 the damage might already have been done)
Understand the importance of compounding in investing and get saving.

Agree with the multiple posters who mentioned pensions. If you don't have one, get one - today. And if you have one, put more into it.

I think the main thing I'd change would be my temporary abandonment of cycling. I cycled from the age of 12 all round South Yorkshire (mostly trainspotting) - I cycled most Sundays from Bolton on Dearne to Doncaster for example. After graduating, I worked in Cambridge where cycling was the best and easiest way to get about - the traffic was horrendous. Then when my kids came along in my 30s, I got out of the cycling habit. I rediscovered it in my early 50s and have never looked back, I'm out whenever or wherever I am (always take the bikes in the motorhome so I've cycled in Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). In 2018 I did a one-day 100 mile ride from home in South Derbyshire to March in Cambridgeshire and in 2021 I averaged 10 miles a day (3652 miles in the year). I'm now 68 and have no major health issues and take no prescription medication, I mostly attribute this to my active lifestyle and cycling.

So whatever you do for exercise, don't give it up.

 

You are approaching halfway through the active phase of your life (you, or your partner, will likely start to struggle more as you both approach 60 with various ailments). As you get older, it will be harder to do the things you want to do. So get off the settee and do them.

As people have said on here sort a pension out,because by the time you retire it could be about 70 and probably there won’t be an old age pension be cause when you do retire there will be about 20 billion old folk and the government says they can’t afford it.
