Would love to see what you all have got. Be nice to look in the stands and see some familiar young faces too
To fair be there were a few good uns back then Ray Mchale,Phil Chambers,Bobby Horn and Stewart Barraclough get honorable mentions
Newcastle, we won 1-0. 17th October 1981. The picture was as the players came off at half time, the tunnel was in the middle of the West stand back then. Brewery stand looks great!
When you look at Ronnie there, he had a bit of a tub on him lol. Was it ever an issue with him and the club, his fitness and weight ?.
Don't think so, he was one of the quickest over 20 yards I've seen at Oakwell, when there was a sniff of a goal. When we played the pigs at the sty easter 1983, he was sub and when he was warming up, the Wendy fans were giving him some stick (who ate all the pies etc). So he came on made a run down the left, leaving the defender for dead, placed the ball neatly into the corner then ran back in front of the Wendies to celebrate. We won 1-0.
It truly was the best time to follow Barnsley. God knows what some of the players would be worth if playing now. If I could time travel this would be it just to see Ronnie play again. Every time he got the ball it was electric as you knew something would happen. Throw in the Banger Banks spectaculars, Aylott’s all round skill as the main target man, and Parker’s ball skills with runs down the wing from Barra. Jeez, enough to make you weep against the absolute dross now.
Yep they were very popular back in the day but if I remember correctly Joyce's was pretty poor compared to others mentioned .
No way on earth ,these in charge now would assemble such a team . We would never have witnessed seeing a actual team being built over a few seasons , impressive really for such a relatively small amount of of money
Great era all round.. when managers were allowed to build up a team. Clubs like Watford and Swansea working their way through the leagues.
