The defensive options we had under Collins were far far worse. For the majority of the season we had Williams, Shepherd, lopata, McCart and MDG. That was it. We have extra midfielder options now too with Nwakali and did have Craig but we didn't use him. So Clarke has had more options there too. Up top we have DKD who is no worse than McAtee. The only thing missing is cole who most slated anyway.... This squad on paper is better than the one Collins had. But people don't like to admit it cos they didn't like Collins. I hated Collins ball but at least I knew what he was trying to do. I still have no idea what Clarke's style is. It's certainly not the front footed high energy high press style he promised when he joined. He is a nice guy DC but he's useless.
Sacking him makes no difference. He’s got a disjointed squad with massive holes in it, how on earth can he stamp his authority on the team in mere months?? The whole ethos of the club has to change, starting with the owners.
Humphrey’s has never been prolific and we took a chance on him last August when nobody else wanted him I’m expecting something similar to happen on Monday
I’m not a fan of his recent contributions. However, as others have pointed out - Plymouth got 9 goals out of him in a promotion winning side. He was unplayable in the Play off second leg at Bolton. Our failure to get anything out of him is not just down to the player. It’s downright bad management. Today we saw an ineffective Humphrys continue to give the ball away by running into crowded areas. I would have brought Dyer in to give him a chance, and get the crowd behind him.
Cosgrove has scored 15 goals in the last 4 years of English league football...130 games....and you think he's just badly coached?
I think you have to mention Cadden & Kane too who were both excellent for us. Left wing back has been a big problem all season & Kane was the one player we had who could control a game. I agree on the rest though. There were a few games in January where Collins briefly had Pines & Earl before Pines got injured & we were so much better. They’re levels in front of Lopata & McCart.
My Huddersfield supporting mate asked me if we could take Kane back, 'A little old fella that does f@#k all' his words if I remember correctly.
15 goals in 4 years at 5 different clubs...and you think he's just suffering from bad management here...gioer wi thi.
Well clearly Plymouth managed to get something from him. He wouldn't have been on our radar if they thought he was absolutely useless would he.
Looked today like Clarke was wrongly trying to prove a point to the board, at the sacrifice of the team. Dyer on the bench. Lack of subs made. It was as if he was telling them they have had all month to strengthen the side and are failing miserably.
Nwakali is the Kane replacement and most on here adore nwakali. Kane is a miss for me though I agree as is cadden. But that aside it's better. And the squad overall is. But that doesn't suit the narrative of some on here.
They got promoted and had other targets maybe like Morgan Whittaker? Player maybe didn't want to permanently move down to Plymouth when he's from the north. You can't say they didn't want him back. None of us know.
OH I don't know, given our recruitment process like! If the stats said he got 9 they wouldn't have said whether they bounced in off his arse or his kneecap!
So he was released by Birmingham and picked L1 Barnsley over a Championship contract....mmm...possible but highly doubtful.
I’m not defending Cosgrove. Quite clearly I have said he’s not doing enough. I’m saying the club ought to be doing more to get something out of him - because no one will come in for him if he can’t get a game when we are crying out for something, anything. We’ve turned a lad with potential into a no hoper. That is terrible management considering we purport to do the opposite.
I’ve lost faith in him after today. The fact he left Russell on was a joke while taking our best midfielder off. Players are declining under his management. The is no attacking insensitive with the starting eleven.
