As the matches get progressively more dull and unentertaining myself and the chap next to me inevitably fill the time by talking utter nonsense about any old thing. During Saturdays snorefest we got to thinking about linesmen and why exactly they always run the same side of pitch. For as long as I have been going to Oakwell (40years) - they have always used sides A and B on the picture below. Obviously one lino per half - but why not use C and D? Certainly someone running the line with the empty seats at C would probably be preferable - they don't get aggro from the crowd and they aren't blocking anyone's view. Does anyone know why it's always A and B?
Lineo always on the right side in relation to the ref (facing the goal in the half he's in). Ref (roughly) covers corner to corner (opposite to the lineo).
